Following the warnings that Paramount content was about to disappear from the paid TV service of Google TV Youtube TV, the companies announced late Saturday that it would reach an agreement to avoid any interruptions for channel availability.
These announcements did not include many specifics regarding the agreement, but a statement from a Paramount spokesman said it includes “an expanded transmission relationship”. So not only that youtube prime channels will continue to provide paramount+ transmission services with showtime and bet+ as additions, but Google also receives “the right to make paramount+ available to qualify YouTube TV clients.”
YouTube TV is not alien to high profile contract disputes with media companies, including Disney. In its announcement, Google said, “We are happy to share that we have reached an agreement to continue holding paramount channels, including CBS, CBS Sports, Nickelodeon and more … For our subscribers, we appreciate patience while we negotiate in your name. ”
The company had announced in a previous blog post that all the paramount content, including CBS and CBS Sports, would disappear from YouTube TV on February 13th. There was a short -term extension when the companies seemed to be close to an agreement.
At the time, Google said it was “struggling for an agreement that avoids the passage of additional costs and subscribers more flexibility in the way you look at your favorite sports and shows.” (Pay TV providers are said to have been fighting for more flexible ways to make channels, especially at the basic levels of their services.)
Meanwhile, Paramount George Cheeks co-co-coos, Chris McCarthy and Brian Robbins sent to the employees an internal memorandum describing Google as “ignorant to agree with reasonable conditions in accordance with the market, choosing to risk the experience of entertainment at the expense of customers. ”
“The reality is, you can’t have a successful video product without Paramount, one of the main media families in watching TV,” CEO said.
