Anora goes away with five Oscars, while no other country – the Israeli settlers represented – assessed the best documentary.
Anora, a Screwball comedy drama about a sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, has gone the biggest prizes at the 97th annual Academy Awards. The film won the prices for the best picture, the best actress, the best director, the best processing and the best original script.
The musical Emilia Perez, which had the highest overall nominations with 13 nods, achieved the victories for the best original song and the best supporting actress on Sunday evening.
Adrien Brody won the best actor for the brutalist – his second Oscar. In 2003 Brody was the youngest person who won the best actor award for the pianist at the age of 29. Mikey Madison won the best actress for Anora.
Kieran Culkin received the best supporting actor for real pain, and Paul Tazewell won the first black man to win the prize for the best costume design for Wicked.
No other country that was caught for its strong representation of the Israeli settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank of the best documentary film for its strong representation of the Israeli settlements.
