The new Cadillac team will join the network from the 2026 season after the accession supported by General Motors was approved by F1 and FIA.
Confirmation of the entry of the luxury brand of the US giant GM in sport means that the Formula 1 network will be expanded to 11 teams from next year.
It was announced last November that Cadillac had provided an agreement in principle to join the network as part of a revised offer by GM in cooperation with the US Global Group, which sees General Motors engaged to run its work engine by the end of the decade.
Before his work engine is ready to use, the Cadillac team provided an agreement to first run the Ferrari engine and the gearbox from its first season in a December -announced agreement.
GM has set up its engine company to develop its first F1 power unit.
A brief joint statement reads: “FIA and Formula 1 may confirm that, after completing their respective sports, technical and commercial estimates, the application by General Motors and TWG Motorports has been approved to bring a Cadillac team to the Formula One Championship has been approved.”
F1 President Stefano Domenicali said: “As we said in November, the engagement from General Motors to bring a Cadillac team to Formula 1 was an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport.
“I want to thank GM and TWG for their constructive commitment over many months and I look forward to welcoming the team from 2026 for what will be another exciting year for Formula 1”
Dan Towriss is the chief executive of the newly formed Global Motorsports, who already runs various entities across World Motorsport, while Graeme Lowon of Britain, former sports director of Marussia’s team, is the director of the Cadillac team.
