Cameron Norrie’s run in Indian Wells was completed in the third round with a 6-3 7-5 loss to the 10th American seed Tommy Paul.
Norrie won this prestigious event in 2021 and continued to reach the quarter-finals in the next two years, but has now matched its last-32 output from 12 months ago after landing in straight groups.
British loss No. 2 was sealed through a double fault – his third of that game – after Paul provided a last 16th meeting against fifth seed Daniil Medvedevwhose round opponent Alex Michelsen withdrew only after two matches and one point due to the noticeable poisoning of food.
Draper sole Britain in men’s bachelors
British No. 2 Norrie who defeated Luca Nardi and 23rd seed Jiri Lehecka to reach this phase three times in the first set by Paul and then slipped into 4-2 in the second before it was collected at 4-4 and then moves 0-30 up to his opponent’s service.
Paul fought from that predicament and then jumped into the 12th match of the second set after Norrie’s fault of service errors.
Norrie’s loss means that Jack Draper is the only British that remains in men’s bachelors after Jacob Fearnley was eliminated in the first round by Brazilian teenage Joao Fonseca, who continued to lose to Draper.
Medvedev progresses along with Grookspoor and Tsitsits
