The announcement, which comes before this weekend, opening the big Australian season Grand Prix Live in Sky SportsIt means that Piastri and Lando Norris will be McLaren’s teammates for the next three seasons, as Norris’s contract expires in late 2027.

“It’s a great feeling knowing that I am part of McLaren’s long -term vision. The team was confident in me when we signed in 2022, and the trip we continued over the past two seasons to help return McLaren to the top of the sport has been extraordinary,” Piaster said.

“There are so many talented and special people working in MTC who have helped me to become a Formula 1 winner very early in my career. Therefore, I am very proud to continue to represent this legendary team for many years to come.

Six weeks later in Monza, Piastri crossed Norris in the opening of the Italian Grand Prix when the pair were first and second. In doing so, Norris also lost before Charles Leclerc and Driver Ferrari continued to win.

After the incident, McLaren stated that Norris would take precedence over the remainder of the season due to his position in the driver championship. However, in Azerbaijan’s Grand Prix, Norris slowed Sergio Perez to help Piastri and the latter won the race.

Davidson: McLaren can have a nice problem in 2025

Sky Sports F1 Anthony Davidson

“I love this driver’s lineup. It is new, it is fresh and with it brings about driving, in breath. Often brings some weaknesses, as we saw last year, some contagious moments between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

“But the team is ready to take on top of that now. You can see the surprise on a very new team last year. It is a problem but a nice problem to have.

“Of course great drivers reach a great team and I think this year you can see some other moments that arise, where, if they are in the most competitive car and there is little gap between them and others, we know they run each other tightly and suddenly become much more personal in that battle within the team among drivers. This is definitely watching.”

“Further extending our partnership with Oscars is a symbol of our faith and trust in him as a driver, as well as a reflection of our common ambition to continue in our championship struggle together,” said team director Andrea Stella.

“It has been a pleasure working with Oscars over the past two seasons and he has continued to prove how impressive he is in terms of talent, determination and his work as a driver and his contribution to our team and culture as a person.

“Alongside Lando, we have what we need to close for a long term to move forward. I look forward to continuing to see the Oscar to grow and develop as a driver and know that many successes stand for it.”
