Citibank revealed in court files on Wednesday that FBI, EPA, EPA Inspector General and Treasury Department have asked everyone to raise the bank of some non -profit and state government agencies.
The accounts were frozen in February, but the new documents make public details that were previously unknown, including a full list of non -profit under the control of the FBI.
The funds were disbursed as part of the $ 27 billion Gase Gas landing fund, which was created by the inflation reduction act, a law adopted by Congress in 2022. For this, EPA received $ 14 billion for a national pure investment fund, providing grants for green banks.
Green banks use those funds to provide funding for clean technology projects across the country. Beginnings that have technologies that are ready to escalate commercially have the right to receive funding to make projects a reality.
Funding was mainly to use for loans, which had to be paid and recycled for future borrowings. Green banks tend to have delinquency rates at the same time as trade and housing portfolios held by other commercial lender.
Citibank was elected as a financial agent to administer the money, keeping them in the account under the names of the data. It also administers a special program, $ 6 billion pure dollars of community accelerator. The EPA contract with Citibank was publicly announced in April 2024.
The FBI has requested that Citibank decide 30-day administrative freezing in accounts held by nonprofits that were receivers of Green Bank funds. He also urged the Bank to raise other non -profit and state government accounts, including habitats for humanity, united road, Colorado’s clean energy fund and New York State Taxation and Finance Department.
Three nonprofits that received Green Bank funds have sued Citibank, asking the bank to issue the money to their accounts.
EPA Lee Zeldin’s administrator has said that the greenhouse gas landing fund does not match the agency’s advantages and that he has concerns about fraud, though he has not provided evidence to support that request.
