An American influencer left Australia on Friday after the government announced that she was checking her visa about a video that she grabbed her mother from her mother.
Sam Jones, who describes himself as a “outdoor -enthusiast and Hunter”, made her Instagram account privately on Thursday after she was widely condemned for the video.
“There has never been a better day to be a baby in Australia,” said Interior Minister Tony Burke in a statement after a government official had confirmed that Jones had voluntarily flown out of the country.
In the video, Jones based in Montana lifts the Wombat Joey in the dark on a roadside on the front legs and then runs away from his mother.
“I caught a baby Wombat,” she said as a man who filmed her laugh. After several seconds, she returns the Wombat to the roadside.
Burke had announced on Friday that the conditions of her visa were checked to determine whether the Immigration Act was violated. “I can hardly wait for Australia to see the back of this person. I don’t expect them to return,” he said in the explanation of the Associated Press.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese added his voice to the criticism.
“It is just an outrage to take a baby out of his mother and make the mother clear, and is just an outrage,” he said.
“I suggest this so-called influencer that you might try some other Australian animals. Take a baby crocodile from his mother and see how to go there.
Jones, who also uses the name Samantha Streber, closed her social media channels to messages and could not be reached for a comment on Friday.
The Wombat seems to be an ordinary abbat that is also known as a mere abbat. It is a protected bay animal that only occurs in Australia.
Yolandi Vermaak, founder of the Wombat rescue of the Animal Care Charity Wombat, said that the separation of the young Wombat from her mother was a risk that the mother would reject her descendants.
“My biggest concern is that we did not really reunite mom and baby. When she put it down, it looked disoriented. It was turned away by the mother, where the mother was last seen. So we don’t know whether mom and baby actually found each other again,” said Vermaak.
Vermaak also asked Jones to say where the Wombat was after the video had shown that the Joey had a skin disease. “The baby has robbery and it is a matter of time before it dies of memes. So it is important for us to find out where this happened and to be able to treat this baby and his mother as quickly as possible,” said Vermaak.
