Pat McAFEE has been accused of “breaking up” the life of a student of Ole Miss College.
Mary Kate Cornettwho is a beginner in Ole Miss, claimed that McAfee spread a rumor about him at his ESPN show in February 2025. At the show, McAfee spoke of a rumor circulating on social media for a university student who was allegedly sleeping with her boyfriend’s father.
While McAfee did not name Cornett in his show, other sports personalities chose the story and included its name. After going viral, Cornett slammed rumors by calling them false. Despite the closing of rumors, Cornett has claimed that she received evil messages in her box on social media and Ole Miss off her. It has since moved to urgent dwellings and has moved to online courses.
“I would like people to be held accountable for what they have done,” Cornett said Athletic In April 2025. “You are ruining my life talking about it at your show for nothing but attention, but here I am staying until 5am, every night, jumping up, not eating because I am so worried about what will happen to the rest of my life.”

Before receiving McAfee’s attention, a false post on the anonymous social media platform Yikyak split in February 2025. He claimed Cornett was linked to her boyfriend’s father. The post went viral and ended up becoming a trend topic on X.

“I would like to discuss the events that have taken place in recent days,” she wrote via Instagram in February 2025. “First of all, this rumor is 100 percent completely false and is quite frankly, unforgivable that such worrying accusations went viral.”
Cornett added despite spending “this difficult time” she and her loved ones were grateful to those who had come to protect her.
“My family and I have been overloaded with support from people all over the country. Thank you, it mattered!” She continued. “I especially appreciate the support from those who know me well enough to know how ridiculous this is.”
Her post then received a serious tone as she addressed the “harassment and harassment” she faced.
“Internet attacks based on nothing, but lies and misinformation happen very often. This experience has aroused the dangers of how we can all be manipulated to believe things we read on social media that are not true,” she notes. “My hope is that I am able to use the heart stroke and the pain I have felt to help others pass such things in the future.”
