Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville Jaguars no longer have excuses not to compete among the best of the NFL as they are traded to design mutual sensations Travis Hunter, believes Sky Sports Phoebe ScheCter.
Jags produced one of the biggest night movements on Thursday while they traded from No. 5 with Cleveland Browns to choose the broad receiver of the Heisman Trophy and the return of the corner with the second general choice.
Hunter has proven as the other NFL generating face as he seeks to do what no player has done in 60 years playing two positions on a full -time basis.
He joins a Jacksonville team led by quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who will now have both Hunter and the first round of Brian Thomas JR available.
“You’ve seen Trevor Lawrence posting about last night on social media,” ScheCter said inside The Huddle.
“This is a two-one-one deal, they needed a receiver and needed a corner, and now they have it.
“Jags had to be aggressive. They continue to say they are a team that is almost there and then Trevor Lawrence has had many battles, so now you bring a clear goal for Lawrence to be able to throw.
“It reaches a point where there can be almost no more excuses for Trevor Lawrence at this point, he must be able to perform.”
Hunter played more than 700 offensive snaps and 700 protective snaps in Colorado in 2024 while he finished the season with 96 grasping for 1,258 yards and 15 touches in addition to 32 meetings, four wiretaps and 11 switching.
He promises to strengthen a Jags offense ranking 24th in the backyard of last season, as well as a defense that was ranked last with only nine takeings.
“I think trade was really a winning situation,” said Sky Sports NFL‘s Jeff reinebold. “Cleveland got a load of elections and this trade gets some of Desaun Watson’s deals and can be a turning point for browns.
“On the other hand, you mention Gladstone (the new manager of Jaguar James Gladstone), who comes out of the Les Snead school of being a general manager, if you want. And what do we know about Les Snead? If he likes a boy, he will get rid of choices to get that guy.
“This guy was the one they wanted. They got what they wanted. You could argue that they needed help of the inner defensive line either this or that or that, but what they needed was a guy who brought a juice into insult.
“We can’t get a mind about the fact that this guy plays two ways, it’s like getting two first round choices. He was the recipient of higher values in most boards and the most valued angle in most boards. I think it’s a positive sign.”
Sanders slips down the table
Hunter’s Colorado Shedeur Sanders teammate was also one of the most obvious stories of the night, but for wrong reasons.
Quarterback did not hear his name called during the first round, despite being previously proven as a possible three choice.
Sanders had been a high -profile name throughout his career in college who had played under his father and the NFL Hall of Fame Deion Sanders at both Jackson State and Colorado.
It seemed as if Sanders could get his call when New York Giants traded No. 25 with Houston Texans, just to choose the Miss Miss Tallienconson Dart.
“Cam Ward was so far the best defender on board, and Giants got Jaxson Dart after that. I don’t think it’s so startling,” ScheCter said.
“Many people said he is a first -round choice. But it adapts to team needs? Not many teams need quarterback.
“I ultimately think that comes for dog show and Pony with Sanders Shedere, you’re not just getting shed sanders. I think it’s about teams when you had just a coach all your life, is that a fair reflection of what you are like a trained athlete?”
“You have to look at it for what it is, and remove Deion from it if you can,” Reinebold said.
“Deion does not throw the ball. When you look at the shed, where it was so interesting it is really good appreciator of talent, including Bucky Brooks, had it as a no -1 defensive throughout the draft and then others said there was little whisper.
“I don’t think the dog show and the little horse was useful to, honestly. I think there were questions what teams would get.
“Deion made comments at the beginning of the season saying he would tell the NFL where his son would play and I think some just said ‘do we really need it?”
“Yes he was successful, but he did not have a particularly large arm and fought many times knowing where the free runners would come from, and he was fired many times.
“A quarterback will always be overestimated in the draft and when you combine all those things, you can see it was coming.”
