Alexander Zverev was announced for a photo of a ball mark in Madrid Open as controversy over the electronic line calling Clay continued.
The system has become commonplace in recent years on other surfaces, but clay events had continued mainly with line judges and umpires descending from his or her chair to examine the mark left by the ball when the calls were opposed.
There were also doubts about the accuracy of the electronic system given the manner of movement of the clay, but the season -line judges have been removed from all events in Tour ATP and many in WTA Tour.
The predictions that this may be problematic have played, with the high seed Zverev, the last player to be left angry by a call during his 2-6 7-6 (3) 7-6 (0) victory over Alejandro Davidovich, Spain in the third round in Madrid.
At the first point of the 10th match in the second set, and moments after his opponent had contested a call, Zverev was convinced that a background from Davidovich Focina had come down wide, saying Umpire Mohamed Lahyani had a “malfunction in the system” after being called.
When his protests did nothing, Zverev pulled his phone out of his bag and grabbed a picture of the sign, gaining a warning of non -portive behavior.
The number one world Aryna Sabalenka experienced the same situation in Stuttgart earlier this month, while Victoria Azarenka posted an image of a phone call from another Madrid match on social media.
French Open so far remains farthest and will continue with the line judges for next month’s tour.
Elsewhere in the Spanish capital, champion defender Andrey Rublev lost 6-4 0-6 6-4 to Alexander Bublik and would fall from 15 balls in the world as a result.
In the women’s draw, Sabalenka’s high seed had to fight again by a group to see Elise Mertens 3-6 6-2 6-1 but the third seed Jessica Pegula and the sixth Jasmine Paolini seeds both fell.
Pegula was beaten 6-3 6-2 by Moyuka Uchijima of Japan while Paolini was hit with 6-2 6-1 by Maria Sakkari, who was revived this week after being reunited with British coach Tom Hill.
