Young Englishman Kris Kim has another chance to try his game against the best in the world this week at CJ Cup Byron Nelson, a year from a PGA Tour debut to remember in Texas.
Kim has been given an exception to a sponsor from CJ Group – who also sponsoring it individually – to them again at the TPC Craig Ranch, where the world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler titles a strong field that also contains the great winner three times Jordan Spieth.
The amateur created the titles in last year’s competition, where he became the youngest European player to ever make a cut in PGA Tour, the youngest in history and the first 16-year-old to reach the weekend since 2015.
Kim was waiting for his GCSE revision 12 months ago to end up in 65th place, after Taylor Pendrith claimed a one-year-old victory, with the 17-year-old seeking to build last year’s historical performance and impress once again.
“It was a lot of fun the first time I just want to try it all again – all four days of it,” Kim said.
In the exam results, Kim added: “I did well with my results, in addition to religious studies – I reviewed the topic completely wrong for it!”
Kim needed some in the 18th 18th hole in his second round last year to make cuts and showed calm beyond his years to produce a sixth bird of the day and to reach the weekend for sure.
“It will always be the nerve when you are in the cut-dog a five-five was useful,” Kim confessed, after resisting going to green in two and stretching to set his six-legged bird.
Kim is already a multiple winner at the age group level, including the R&A 2023 amateur championship, with the invincible teenager at the European Cup Junior Ryder’s triumph later that year and most recently making his men’s debut in England in their two -year clash with Spain.
Kim will once again have the Lpga Tour Rose Zhang star, Olly Brett in his purse for his return to PGA Tour, while he continues to have his mother’s support – one of the early Korean pioneers at the LPGA Tour in the 1990s.
The duo had a light -hearted disagreement about how well he would have done in this year’s masters, with Kim seeking to get inspiration from Rory Mcilroy’s great success when he sought improvements in his game.
“She thought I would miss the cut,” Kim joked. “Thank you Mama! I think I could have played the weekend.
“I really don’t see the golf. But how could I not see it? I was looking out of bed and was so good. When Rory hit him in the bunkers in the first two holes, I thought it could not be his day again.
“Inspirating inspiring to see someone collapsed so often and continue to rise. His driving is his excellent ability, and this really inspires me to be better than tee. That singles out.
