The high figures in Wolves will meet their women’s team on Thursday night after the club never made a license request to apply for championship promotion.
Wolves ended second in the Premier North Division, losing first place and promotion at the second level with three points. Nottingham Forest was finally promoted in the Women’s Championship.
The players, however, were shocked to reveal shortly before their last match that their promotion challenge would be in vain as the club never met the documents needed to satisfy the WPLL requirements to play in the division above.
Sky Sports News Understands that the chairman of the wolves Jeff Shi was dissatisfied with the conditions that came with the license structure, which include financing, player contracts, trade and medical requirements.
Meeting these objectives would mean a huge increase in funds, something that would be difficult to agree to take into account the documents had to be completed in February when the future Premier League status of Wolves was controversial.
Wolves players will meet with sports director Matt Hobbs and Professional Development Director Matt Jackson to broadcast their complaints and seek guarantees for future support.
After the news appeared, a number of players took on social media to ignite their disappointments. Midfield Beth Merrick I wrote on X: “Imagine fighting for promotion throughout the season, to find out that our championship offer never gave up.
“As a group we are absolutely destroyed to finish the season in this way and we believe it speaks volumes about the club’s ambitions for the women’s team.
“That our staff should have to hand over this news at moments as it is startling.
“Our players, staff and fans deserve much better. The staff have put dedication for hours, so that an effort is never gone. It has nothing to do with money, it has to do with honesty and transparency.”
Lily Simkin Added to social media: “We feel released … We got it on the last day to find out that it would have been nothing for nothing. We deserve better.”
Abbi Jenner, who was in Wolves in a double recording from the championship title penalties Birmingham City, wrote: “Absolutely Gutting”.
