Oliver Oakes resigned as the director of the Alpine team day after his brother was arrested.
William Oakes was charged with “transferring criminal property” after being found in “possession of a large amount of money” when stopped at Silverstone Park on May 1st.
Rugby’s 31-year-old, Warwickshire, was held in custody after appearing at the Northampton Court on May 3.
A metropolitan police statement read: “William Oakes, 31, from Rugby was charged with transferring criminal properties on Friday, May 2 after he was detained in the Silverstone Park area in Northamptonshire Thursday, May 1, 2025 in possession of a large amount of money.
“He appeared before the Court of Magistrates in Northampton on Saturday, May 3 and was held in custody.”
William Oakes is a director at Hitech Grand Prix, the new British -centered team founded by his brother Oliver Oakes in 2015.
Oliver Oakes, who is not linked to the arrest of William Oakes and is not charged with any wrongdoing, is a former race driver and won the world title Karting 2005. He remains a GP Hitech director.
Oliver Oakes turned the team into a single -place championship power plant, including Formula 2 and Formula 3, before replacing Otmar Szafnauer as director of the Alpine team in August 2024 to become the newest chief of the team in the F1 network.
The 37-year-old supervised a double spectacular podium for Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly in the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix in Brazil but his shock departure came with novice driver Jack Doohan replaced by Franco Corapinto after only six races.
Sky Sports News Hitch GP approached for comment, while Alpine F1 refused to comment.
