Martin Couvra continued his impressive start for his career at the World Tour PD, producing a stunning last round comeback to search for a progress title at Turkish Airlines Open.
The Frenchman overthrew a four -shot deficit during a exciting Sunday in Regnum Carya, where four birds in a five -holes in the back helped him post a last round 64.
Couvra mixed nine birds with two frauds on the last day to set a total winner of 17 under, two better strokes than the closest challengers Haotong Li and Jorge Campillo, with Brandon Robinson Thompson, England, two more strokes again.
The victory extends a strong season for Couvra, who graduated from the Hotel Planner tour last year and already posted four Top-10 conclusions of the campaign, with the victory also raising it in eighth in the race for Dubai ranking.
“It was amazing to win in my first year on the world tour of PD – just a dream,” Couvra said. “I wake up in the morning to win some tours and win early (in my PD career in Tour) is fantastic, so happy about it.
“Of course, it was really difficult to keep calm and in good shape to close this round, but I was really happy with all my caddy discussions today, it was just amazing. I think tonight will be fun with all French players!”
Couvra-the leader of the half-road-had fallen on the board after a 72-round round, but was again accused in four-bird quarrel in his six opening holes on Sunday, with the 22-year-old who later canceled a noise in the eighth taking a blow to another to return to 30.
The Frenchman failed to rise up and down to save money from the other green, but responded with birds on each of his next three holes, with a six-foot bird on the 15th 15th extending his full advantage.
Three pars was enough for Couvra to set a club target that could not match, with the five birds of Campillo in an eight -hole stretch from the eighth enough to match the last 67 rounds of Li and divide the second place.
Robinson Thompson ended the fourth after managing only one bird in his latest round 72, with Joost Luenen and Matthew Southgate a further blow to Pestin and England Chris Wood providing his first PD tour at Top-10 since a final round 64.
“It has been terrible to be honest,” Wood said. “It’s been – since 2019 really – I just feel like I have gone through hell, so doing a result together today is definitely great.
“I want to feel like I know my game there, not just set a result one day, and I really feel like I’m starting to do it now. I’ve worked so hard at home, just quietly with a great team, and it’s been a long old street to be honest.
“I’ve never lost faith in myself – you undoubtedly have days where you feel more than a few. The fire in my stomach has always been there. I’m relying on invitations this year. I’m ready – I’m practicing so well at home that a last call is a problem, I’m ready to go.”
