India’s holiday Virerat Kohli announced his retirement by Test Cricket, knocking the curtain into a long -sprayed career just days after captain Rohit Sharma did the same.
The 36-year-old’s decision comes a week after Rohit Sharma, who followed Kohli as Skipper, also withdrew from the red ball format and a month before India started a series of five-game tests in England.
“It’s been 14 years since I first wore blue Baggy in the test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me.
“There is something deeply personal to play in whites. Qui quiet, long days, small moments that no one sees but staying with you forever.
“As I depart from this format, it’s not easy – but feels good. I’ve given everything I had, and it’s been much more than I could have hoped for.
“I am fleeing with a heart of gratitude – for the game, for the people I shared with the field, and for every single person who made me feel first on the way.
“I will always look back in my trial career with a smile.”
Kohli scored 9,230 runs in 123 tests to stay in the fourth place on the list of all time of India’s test.
He had already told the Cricket Control Board in India (BCCI) that he wanted to withdraw from the test cricket in front of this summer’s series in England.
It is understood that the 36-year-old told the leading selector Ajit Genarkar in April of his desire to leave before the 2025-2027 World Test Championship cycle in June.
