Diane Keaton has been captivating viewers since the 1970s – and it shows no signs of stopping.
After making her theatrical debut in the original 1968 Broadway production locksKeaton addressed the film. Her first role was in the 1970s Lovers and other strangerstwo years before she got her big break Francis Ford CoppolaS ‘ Godfather.
“I always thought I was the most outsider, the weirdest person in the movie, and ‘Why did I get into it?’ and I didn’t have a voice,” Keaton said of her character, Kay Adams, while celebrating the original film’s 45th anniversary at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival. “But then I had some good scenes with her Al (Pacino)”
At the time, the Oscar winner confessed that she hadn’t seen the iconic mob movie in nearly three decades. “I saw it on my computer. I hadn’t seen him in I think about 30 years,” she said. “And … I remember all the people, I couldn’t handle it, it was so amazing, it was so beautiful, and everyone is so great in it, and the music and every choice made (Coppola).”
Keaton went on to appear in the 1974 sequel to the franchise and the 1990 sequel. While her dramatic turns are award-worthy, fans also love her Then Again author’s comic timing in Annie Hall, Father of the Bride, Family Stone and more.
“Diane, of course, she was kind of our leader in the movie.” Family stone useless Luke Wilson exclusively said Us Weekly in December 2021. “She would never say it, but everyone admired her so much.”
