“In light of today’s safety concerns about increased wind activity and wildfires in Los Angeles,” an Amazon representative said in a statement to Us Weekly on Tuesday, January 7. “We regret to inform you that we are canceling tonight’s premiere of Unstoppable.
Los Angeles is currently experiencing high winds and wildfires in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, which is just outside of Santa Monica. Most of the Palisades were ordered to evacuate Tuesday afternoon, according to Los Angeles Times.
“While we look forward to celebrating this wonderful and inspiring film with you, safety is our first priority,” the statement continued. “We encourage everyone to watch Unstoppable on Prime Video, which will be available globally on January 16. Thank you for your understanding and please stay safe.”
The official X account of the National Weather Service in Los Angeles issued an alert regarding dangerous wind storms expected to occur Tuesday through Wednesday, January 8.
“A life-threatening, damaging, widespread wind storm is expected Tuesday afternoon-Wednesday morning across much of Ventura/LA Co. Areas that do not normally blow wind will be affected,” the tweet read Monday. Jan. 6, along with an infographic of potential areas that could be affected. “See chart for areas of greatest concern. Stay indoors, away from windows, expect power outages.
The premiere of Unstoppable was scheduled to take place on Tuesday in West Hollywood. Lopez, who plays in the Anthony Robles biopic as the wrestler’s mother, Judy, was expected to attend the red carpet alongside the film’s lead actor Jarrel Jerome. Other cast members Don Cheadle, Michael Pena, By Michael Williamson and director William Goldenberg were expected to attend as well.
Lopez has yet to address the cancellation of the premiere. News of the premiere’s cancellation comes a day after Lopez settled her divorce Ben Affleck. Affleck, 57, produced the sports drama through his friend and his friend Matt DamonArtists Equity Production Company.
Unstoppable wasn’t the only upcoming movie taking precautions.The Wolf Manwhich stars Christopher Abbott AND Julia Garneralso canceled its Tuesday LA premiere.
“Unfortunately, tonight’s premiere of The Wolf Man has been canceled due to the sensitivity surrounding the worsening weather situation in LA and related evacuations,” Universal said in a statement to Variety.
Many stars have been affected by the fires, and some have even stepped in to help with relief efforts. actor Steve Guttenberg has been on the ground helping firefighters by moving cars left behind by evacuation orders so fire trucks and other residents could easily access the streets.
“There are people stuck up there. So we’re trying to clear Palisades Drive and I’m walking up there as far as I can moving cars,” Police Academy said the alum in an interview on Tuesday for AKTK. “There are families up there, there are pets up there. There are people who really need help.”
