WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Joe Biden signed 50 bills on Tuesday that include making the bald eagle the nation's official bird and one barring members of Congress from collecting their pensions if convicted of crimes.
Biden also created the first federal anti-hazing standard to address the violence and deaths occurring on higher education campuses across the country. He also signed a bill backed by reality TV star and heiress Paris Hilton that would hold treatment centers and care facilities that serve young people accountable.
Earlier this month, Biden vetoed legislation to add 66 new judges to understaffed federal courts nationally, commuted the sentences of 37 of 40 federal death row inmates, commuting them to life in prison without parole and issued a full and unconditional pardon for his son. Hunter.
The flurry of activity comes as Biden pushes his final priorities before handing over power to President-elect Donald Trump on Jan. 20.
He is also ending his time in office by taking money previously approved by Congress for infrastructure projects at home and weapons for Ukraine.
