Chinese state media have said there will be no “damage” in holding trade talks with the Trump administration, showing a mitigation of Beijing’s position as both parties seek a way to get out of their overwhelming tariff fight.
The gesture comes after Trump has indicated that he hopes to negotiate on trade and while the consequences have begun to show China’s economic data, with the activity of the factory in April falling mostly since 2023 while export orders were said.
Yuyuan Tantian, an account linked to the CCTV state broadcaster, said in a social media post on China’s Weibo platform on Thursday that Beijing did not need to speak with SH.BA before Washington took a fundamental action.
“But if the US wants to engage with China, there is no harm to it to China at this stage,” she said.
The long post quoted unnamed sources to mention that US officials had “proactive in China through various channels hoping to hold talks with the Chinese side with tariffs”.
He also highlighted the US economic data, including empty ports and a contraction of GDP in the first quarter, saying Washington was “undoubtedly the most concerned party” for negotiations.
“If you talk, the door is open,” Yuyuan Tantian said. “If it’s a war, we’ll see it to the end.”
Analysts said the language represented a mitigation of Beijing’s position from last week when the Ministry of Trade indicated that the US
Andrew Polk, co -founder of Trivium China, an advisory group, said the post seemed to “come to the table.”
“Painting the US as a more thirsty, more anxious, more pressured holiday, they are trying to portray themselves as a place of strength,” he said. “This should play well with the local audience and give them covers to start negotiations.”
Zichen Wang, author of the Pekingnology newspaper and associate of research at the Center for China and Think-Tank Globalization in Beijing, said posts from Yuyuan Tantian and another social media account showed that China appeared ready for trade talks.
“This method of signaling through social media accounts remains relatively new in the Chinese context,” he said, though Wang noted that Beijing also used a social media account for signaling purposes during the first trade war with SH.BA
Wang added that the US “must demonstrate respect, refrain from hostile rhetoric and display genuine sincerity” to occur a significant progress.
Washington and Beijing engaged in an escalation of titles after Trump began raising fees for Chinese goods in February. Additional meetings have reached 145 percent, while Beijing has set a vengeful task of 125 percent.
Trump on Wednesday told reporters that he was waiting to talk to China President Xi Jinping at one point. In recent weeks, Trump has made numerous claims about talks with China that people familiar with the issue in Beijing and Washington have said they are untrue.
Jamieson Greer, US Trade Representative, on Wednesday told Fox News that US and China had not developed any trade negotiation since Trump took office in January.
Trump wants to negotiate a direct trade agreement with XI, but Chinese officials have made it clear to his administration both sides will have to reach some kind of agreement before both executives could speak.
“Right now … They have tremendous difficulties because their factories are not doing business,” Trump said, adding that SH.BA could do without Chinese goods.

His comments follow direct warnings from the great SH.BA sellers, including Walmart and Target, who told Trump at the White House meetings that the trading war would result in empty shelves at one point.
While the two countries remain in a trade war block, both parties have mitigated the impact of some of the tariffs giving exceptions to essential goods such as iPhone and chemical imports.
Still, the stand-off has begun to hit both economies. Traffic in US ports has fallen rapidly while in China, export -dependent factories have begun wool workers.
“The main point of pain for China in the current sustainability test between China and the US is the health market health,” Lynn Song, the chief of economist for China, said.
