Your guide to what the 2024 American elections mean for Washington and the world

Donald Trump has moved to limit the task of reducing Elon Musk’s costs, ordering his cabinet to ensure that “more productive” civil servants are excluded from comprehensive vacations that have destroyed throughout the US.

At a meeting at the White House on Thursday, where the secretaries of state and Musk attended, the President hinted that the so -called so -called government efficiency department could have been very indiscriminately in its massive fires of federal employees.

Trump posted in social truth shortly after the meeting was over: “While secretaries learn and understand, people working for different departments, they can be very accurate who will remain and who will go. We say ‘scalpel’ than ‘hatchet’. “

The president’s comments come amid the increasing concern between Republican lawmakers and members of the cabinet on the speed and width of the DOGE vacation, which have affected at least 20,000 federal employees and their veterans and cancer scholars.

“It is very important for us to lower the levels where they should be, but it is also important to keep people the best and more productive,” Trump wrote in his post. “We will have these meetings every two weeks until that aspect of this much needed work.”

Speaking in front of reporters at the White House on Thursday afternoon, Trump went further: “I don’t want to see a big cut where many good people are cut.. I want cabinet members to go first, keep all the people you want, all you need.”

Trump’s post echoed comments from New York Republican Congressman Nicole Malliotakis last month, in which she asked Doge to use a “scalpel not a whip” when identifying savings “to avoid unnecessary consequences and unnecessary anxiety.

Senate majority leader John Thune said this week that the dismissals “must be made in a way of respect”, while a number of his Republican colleagues have gently criticized proposed cuts for scientific research, expenses of American aid and withdrawal of FBI agents.

In response to the concerns, Musk on Wednesday agreed to provide some Republican senators with his personal phone number to call and Flamur problematic cuts, according to some in the room.

Chairman Mike Johnson advised Republican members of the Congress not to hold meetings within persons in their districts, as a number of lawmakers were subjected to loud protests for Doge cuts in the town halls in Georgia, Texas and Kansas, among other states.

At the beginning of this week, the Trump administration quietly clarified a directive that prompted fires, stating that it depends on agencies to determine whether employees would rest.

Last week, a federal judge banned the US government’s staff management office – a main vehicle for the Musk’s Doge project – from the shooting of probation workers in specific departments, explaining that the office “has no authority under any statute in the history of the universe to employ and fire employees in another agency”.

Some test workers left the National Science Foundation last month began to regenerate on Monday, the agency said. The US government was also forced last month to reopen employees in the National Nuclear Security Administration.
