Indonesia and other countries are lining up on Tuesday at the negotiation table in the hope of reaching an agreement with the Trump administration on comprehensive mutual tariffs announced against them last week.
Developments come as European Commission President Ursula von Der Leyen spoke to a senior Chinese official to postpone “a negotiated solution in the current situation, emphasizing the need to avoid further escalation”. “What is happening now, the world is in turmoil due to the strongest country of the world’s economy that makes policies to raise so high tariffs for many countries,” Indonesia President Prabowo Subanto said in Jacket on Tuesday after his country was hit with a 32% tariff by the ASSOCATED Press.
The Chief Executive of Indonesia’s Economic Minister Airlangga Mavaro reportedly added that the country’s government would not take any vengeful measures against the US and has managed to begin negotiations on mutual tariff policy.

“What America wants is a balance of trade balance,” the ap quoted. “We will increase our purchase of American products.”
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, speaking on Tuesday at the Southeast Asian Association Conference in Kuala Lumpur, announced his government and others in Southeast Asia will send a delegation to Washington to discuss tariffs, reported AP.
“We do not believe in Megafone diplomacy,” Anwar said. “As part of our soft diplomacy of quiet engagement, we will send with our colleagues to Asean our officials to Washington to begin the dialogue process.”
China refuses to withdraw with tariffs after Trump threatened tougher measures

The news agency also reported that India’s Foreign Minister spoke to Secretary of State Marco Rubio late on Monday in the hope of reaching an early conclusion in talks on a bilateral trade agreement and that Japan’s prime minister is thinking of traveling to Washington for direct talks with Trump on tariffs.
Trump said Monday in a post on social truth that he spoke to Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba over the phone and that he is “sending a high team to negotiate”.
The office of European Commission President von der Leyen also said she delivered a call with Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang “to discuss the EU-Kina state relations, as 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties.”
