AI-generated profiles and users could soon flood Facebook, according to new comments from a Meta AI executive.
Over the past year, the social media platform company has been perfecting and promoting new AI programs and technologies across sites like Facebook. In July, Meta launched new trial AI character creation tools with hundreds of thousands of characters already created.
While most of these characters are private for now, Meta expects them to be a regular part of the platform within the next few years.

“We expect these AIs to actually, over time, exist on our platforms, in the same way as accounts,” Meta’s vice president of product for generative AI, Connor Hayes, told the Financial Times on Thursday.

“They will have bios and profile pictures and be able to generate and share AI-powered content on the platform… that’s where we see this all going,” he added.
Hayes said AI investment will be a “priority” for Meta over the next two years to help make its platforms “more fun and engaging” for users. Currently, users can use Meta AI to edit photos or create AI assistants.
The Financial Times also reported that Meta also plans to release new text-to-video generation software for content creators to insert into AI-generated videos.

Ahead of these presentations, some experts warned that significant guardrails must be installed to stop the “weaponization” of the technology.
“Without strong safeguards, platforms risk amplifying false narratives through these AI-driven accounts,” the head of marketing at talent agency Billion Dollar Boy and former head of Meta’s creative innovation team, told the Financial Times. Becky Owen.
She also warned that an influx of AI users could dilute the brand by flooding the platform with relatively low-quality content.
She added, “Unlike human creators, these AI persons do not have vivid experiences, emotions, or the same capacity for connection.”
AI-generated content is currently required to include an “Info AI” tag on Facebook.
In a comment to Fox Business, a Meta spokesperson touted the AI tool’s capabilities.
“With AI Studio, people can create and chat with AI characters that are AIs based on your interests. These can be built by anyone and used for services, entertainment or support. You can build and discover AIs for helping with things like teaching you how to cook, getting quick tips, creating headlines, sharing fashion tips or offering daily affirmations,” the spokesperson said.

“Historically, investing to build these new scalable experiences into our apps has been a very good long-term investment for us and for the investors who have stuck with us, and the early signs are pretty positive here as well. But building leading AI It’s also going to be a bigger undertaking than other experiences we’ve added to our apps, and that’s likely to take a few years,” Zuckerberg said.
