Your guide to what the 2024 American elections mean for Washington and the world
President Donald Trump’s plans for SH.BA to take over Gaza have met with anger and concern throughout the Arab world and raised the fear of the reign of conflict in the region.
The US president on Tuesday evening said the US should “take over” the destroyed ribbon of Gaza, Swaths from which are in more than a year of war with Israel, and that the Palestinian population should be restored.
Palestinian leaders on Wednesday said they would oppose any attempt to remove them from their land.
A senior leader in the Islamic militant group and the ruling power of Gaza Hamas, Sami Abu Zuhri, said the people of Gaza would not allow these plans to pass, “and called Trump’s comments a” recipe for the creation of chaos and tension in the region. “
Hussein Al-Sheikh, Secretary General of the Palestinian Organization Liberation, said that the Palestinian leadership remained committed to a two-state solution and “claims its refusal for all calls for the relocation of the Palestinian people from their homeland”.
PLO is related to Palestinian authority, which exercises limited self-regulation in parts of the West Coast and is seen by international diplomats that they have a possible role in the governance of post-war Gaza.
Arab states have long refused any further expulsion of the Palestinians. The Palestinian exodus during the creation of the Jewish state in 1948, known to Palestinians as Nakba or disaster, created waves of relocation in neighboring countries and caused years of instability in the region.
Jordan and neighboring Egypt, who have not yet responded to Trump’s comments, had previously opposed Trump’s suggestion for them to accept the displaced Palestinian refugees.
Trump’s intention to secure Gaza with US soldiers will also reappear memories of the catastrophic occupation of the US and the occupation of Iraq, which further destabilized the region and destroyed America’s reputation in the Arab world.
Trump’s intervention also threatens to undermine his intention to do more to normalize relations between Israel and Arab states in the region.
Saudi Arabia, seen as Trump’s closest ally in the oil -rich bay region, on Wednesday refused to relocate the Palestinians and said he would not hold peace talks with Israel unless he created an independent Palestinian state.
After successfully mediating the normalization talks between Israel and the Gulf of Gulf, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain during his first term, Trump was widely expected to pursue an agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
But Israel’s war against Gaza, caused by Hamas in October 2023, harden the Riyadh’s attitude towards Israel and has seen it renewed a commitment to an independent Palestinian state.
Prince of the crown of Saudi Arabia and leader De facto Mohamed bin Salman has previously labeled Israel’s savage attack – which has killed about 47,000 people in Gaza – as a “genocide”.
The Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry said that Saudi Arabia “will not establish diplomatic relations with Israel” without an independent Palestinian state and stressed that this position was “non-negotiating and was not subject to compromises”.
