White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt tells Fox News that the Trump administration is ‘focused on restoring the Golden Age of America and making America a productive superpower’.
President Donald Trump is “always ready for good negotiation,” the White House said on Tuesday as the administration is preparing to announce the April 2 tariffs “ERITION Liberation”.
White House secretary Caroline Leavitt warned in answer to a question whether companies or places can change the way they do business with the US to avoid tariffs imposed on them. Trump has said he will discover a group of new fees on Wednesday, which he has called “ERITION Liberation Day”.
“The president has looked at the very unfair trade practices of the past. Of course, the President is always ready to receive a call, always for good negotiation. But he is very focused on regulating the past mistakes and showing that US workers have a fair shock,” Leavitt told journalists.
She later said, “I can tell you that there were many places that have called the president and called his team in discussion on these fees.”

Leavitt was also asked by the Fox News Senior House Peter Docy correspondent if Trump has heard from any pensioners in Florida “who are stressed for these wild shakes in the stock market due to tariff insecurity, and they are sitting there with fixed income or living outside a 401k, and they do not know how many money they will be left?”
“Well, of course they are legitimate concerns and the president takes them very seriously. And he is turning to them every single day,” she replied. “And tomorrow’s announcement is to protect the future generations of the elderly citizens you mentioned. It is for their children and their grandchildren to ensure that there is work here in the United States for their children to live the American dream, just as they do.
“And in terms of their concerns about their 401K, their social insurance … This president will protect it for our taxes,” she continued.

Leavitt also stated that he will “come down as one of the most important days in modern American history tomorrow.”
“Many foreign countries have their own closed markets for our exports. This is essentially unfair. Lack of reciprocity contributes to our large and continuous annual trade deficit that has destroyed our industries and emptied the main work forces,” she added.

“But those days of America, starting tomorrow, being fired are over,” Leavitt said. “US workers and businesses will first be placed under President Trump, as he promised in the footsteps of the campaign.”
