Your guide to what the 2024 American elections mean for Washington and the world
The US began a wave of air strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen on Saturday after Donald Trump warned that hell will fall “Iran -backed group if they continue to attack the Red Sea transport.
The US president also warned Iran to stop his support for the “Militant Group” immediately.
The attacks came days after Houthis, who control most of Yemen’s populated northern, threatened to resume attacks on the Red Sea and Aden Bay.
“Today, I have ordered the United States army to launch crucial and powerful military actions against Houthi terrorists in Yemen,” Trump said in a post on social truth. “They have conducted an unstable campaign of piracy, violence and terrorism against Americans, and others, ships, aircraft and drones.”
Houthis launched a number of attacks on the US Navy trading ship and ships in the Red Sea last year, saying they were acting in solidarity with the Palestinians while Israel carried out his wild offensive against Hamas in Gaza.
The attacks severely disrupted traffic through one of the most important routes of maritime trade in the world and continued despite the US, UK and Israeli air strikes in the Houthi military targets in Yemen.
Houthis stopped their campaign after Israel and Hamas agreed on a fragile ceasefire in January under which Palestinian militants agreed to issue seizures seized in their October 7 attack on the Jewish state.
But Houthis warned this week that they would resume their attacks on transport after Israel blocked the distribution of all Gaza aides in an attempt to press Hamas to accept a revised proposal for the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
Air US attacks on Saturday targeted the leaders, bases and defenses of Houthis missile, Trump said.
“The Houthi attack on US ships will not be tolerated,” Trump said. “We will use deadly deadly force until we have reached our target.”
“For all Houthi terrorists, your time is over, and your attacks must stop, starting today. If they do not do it, hell will fall down on you as nothing you’ve ever seen!” Trump added.
Trump on Saturday also warned Tehran not to support the Yemeni rebels, who are part of Iran -backed militants who make up the so -called “resistance axis”.
SH.BA and Israel accuse Iran of supplying Houthis of increasingly sophisticated drone and missile technology as well as intelligence.
“In Iran: Support for Houthi terrorists should end right away!” He said.
“Don’t threaten the American people, their president, who has received one of the biggest mandates in presidential history, or transport lanes all over the world. If you do, be careful, because America will be fully responsible and we will not be good for that!”
Trump is redefining his so -called “maximum pressure” campaign against the Republic. During his first term, Trump withdrew the US from the 2015 Nuclear Agreement Tehran signed with world power and imposed hundreds of sanctions on the Republic.
He has announced more sanctions on Tehran since he returned to the White House, while also saying he wants to negotiate with Iran in his nuclear program. But he has also maintained the threat of military action.
His administration has also appointed Houthis a foreign terrorist organization as it appears to increase pressure on the rebellious Yemen group.
The Houthi -led Ministry of Health said at least nine civilians were killed and nine were injured in US attacks in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen.
Houthis have searched Sana’a and much of the north for a decade since the collapse of the Yemeni government as the poor Arab state went down to civil war.
The conflict withdrew to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which led an Arab coalition that intervened to fight Houthis in March 2015.
The Yemeni Embassy in the Mission of Washington and Iran to the United Nations did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
