Taylor Swift’s discography took over the airwaves in 2024, landing her spot as Spotify’s top global artist for the second year in a row. Carpenter released “Espresso” in April 2024 as the lead single from it Short ‘N Sweet album. While “Espresso” debuted at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at number three in June. Ultimately, Carpenter got her way — and she was proven right.

Eilish, for her part, dropped her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft in May 2024. When the album was released, the first single was the innuendo-laden “Lunch,” followed by “BIRDS OF A FEATHER “. “Lunch” debuted on the Billboard charts at #5 with “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” at #12. In July, Eilish chose “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” as the album’s second single, which saw it climb the charts.

At the 66th annual Grammy Awards in February, it was hard not to notice a pattern when artists took the stage to accept their awards: Most of them were women. Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist – the so-called “Big Four” awards – went to (…)

“I’m kind of incredulous when people tell me they think something’s going to be a big hit because it feels like cheating — or because, usually, people say that about things that sound like something else that already exists.” the producer explained. “You know, no one said that about ‘Bad Guy’ before it came out, and I think the reason no one said that was because it sounded really new. However, that being said, whenever we played ‘Birds of a Feather’ for the label or our close friends, they would go kind of crazy.”

In November 2024, both Carpenter and Eilish received Grammy nominations. Eilish is up for seven awards this year, while Carpenter earned six nominations. “Espresso” and “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” will face off again in two categories: Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
