Edwina Findley did not cut the corners when it came to its role RESIDENCE.
During an exclusive interview with The weeklyFindley, 44, explained how she held traces of the show’s response scenes, alternative moments and various deadlines for her character, Sheila.
“This was extremely complicated to do. This got an extraordinary technical amount for me. Literally, I created over 100 pages of preparation specially for Sheila,” Findley recalled. “Then there were probably another 20 pages or maybe 30 just not including the time limits and what happens when and in what version.”
Having the “many versions of the story” meant that Findley had to be a top of each.
“It is unclear which part of this is the truth and which part of this is a lie. Then what are the alternative conclusions of these different stories? “I started going to AA meetings. I started reading the whole big book of AA. I started looking at documentaries – and it was very important for me to get it right.”
Findley specifically emphasized the way Sheila’s alcohol consumption played on the screen, adding, “If she had a sip at 9am and then a whole bottle at 3am, then what’s going on in her body? What is it in her mind?

Findley’s character, Sheila, was one of the suspects, but was eventually exterminated. The main testimony that was accumulated against Sheila was her dependence on alcohol.
“This was extremely important to me because as an actor (to properly portray). Really really your task gets your character side. No your task represents your character with authenticity and truth and compassion,” the actress said we. “It was extremely important to create a multidimensional and authentic human being. And part of this was relying on creating a story about it. So I loved the show created these beautiful tangible monologues for her. You see the great Sheila and you see her being the star of her story.”
Findley continued: “And in the intimacy of her mind, she thinks it is the visible legacy for the first lady. But she is fighting because she has protocols and there is a way you have to do things in the White House. Of course she stops against all this because part of her soul is trying to be free.”
While reflecting on the role, Findley called the possibility a “full moment of circle manifestation” after connecting it with the White House.
“I’ve been very passionate about telling the stories of real people in Washington DC to the point I was creating my entire show around him,” she discovered. “Suddenly to get this scenario from Shondaland located around the White House and describing very real characters – servants and buttons and housewives and users and florists – where it was not really for the president, it was for all these regular people. He up, the downstairs dynamics was really exciting and was just an honor to tell that story.”
