from Charli XCX‘s wine brat carpenterS ‘ Short n ‘sweet tour and the rise of Princess Midwest himself, Chappell RoanWomen in Pop are predominant air waves and culture in a way we have not seen from the early AUGHTS. However, unlike their ancestors in Noughties, these pop gals can stay in solidarity with each other as the toxic, competitive culture of the music industry is somewhat relaxed.
In the late 90s and early 2000s, it was almost impossible to be a successful pop act, without comparing your peers or accused of having a rivalry with someone. from Britney Spears Vs. Christina Aguilera BY Mrs. Gaga vs. Katy perryThe predominant narrative was that you had to fight your way to the top, where there was only room for one.
At a certain point, the tide began to come back, reaching a peak last summer when some of the best-selling albums XCX’s BraceletRoan’s The rise and fall of a Midwest PrincessCarpenter’s Short n ‘sweet, Taylor SwiftS ‘ Department of tortured poets, Billie EarthS ‘ Hit me hard and soft AND BeyoncĂ©S ‘ rancher – They were all from women. Most importantly, women who actively support each other’s work. (Those albums, by the way, led this year’s nominations in Grammy, including a better category of better pop albums for the first time in history.)

Perhaps everyone’s most annoying example came during this year’s Grammys ceremony, during which one of the most famous and decorated female musicians of all time, Swift, presented one of the most famous and decorated female musicians of all Times, BeyoncĂ©, with a coveted Awarding: Country Album of the Year. With both superstars often compete for the same prices – and even having massive tournaments and concert movies at the same time – one would think there may be some “bad blood” between them. But the icons demonstrated only love and support.
Making stories as the first black woman to win that award, BeyoncĂ© also walked home with her first album prize and the country’s best duo/group performance trophy for her duet with another woman in music, Miley Cyrus. (“We won, BeyoncĂ©! … Even if you are not, I can just say it is,” Make Cyrus from the Grammys phase as he announced the Record of the Year award.)

Amy Sussman/Getty ImagesOther instances of ladies spreading love: Swift has sang Carpenter’s praise in many cases, calling it “princess pop of our dreams”, and last August without Charli XCX to ask Eilish to unite in a remix of her song “Guess”, which quickly broke the record for Remix’s biggest debut for female artists in Spotify.
In June, Charli XCX also “processed it to Remix” with Lord In “Girl, so confusing”, placing the rumors of the alleged calf between two pop icons with dark hair in bed. The song sent the Internet to a rage thanks to its smart lyrics, which includes the theme of solidarity among female artists that were once settled against each other for clicks and profits. As the ladies sing: “People say we’re alike / They say we got the same hair / you are you and I in the currency / industry like to spend.”
But in today’s era, Girlhood is about meeting rather than overthrowing each other. So if you are a Grammy nominated singer or a woman who navigates friendship in modern days, there is much more power (and fun!) In climbing together.
