Sinoff will take place 15 years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale. Narrated by Aunt Lydia, viewers return to the dystopian future with new characters like Agnes from Gilead and Daisy from Canada as they secretly gather and smuggle incriminating information about the Gilead regime abroad. Agnes and Daisy pose as the Pearl Girls to infiltrate Canada, while Aunt Lydia acts as a secret source within Gilead.

Is ‘The Testaments’ based on a book in ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ franchise?
wills is a 2019 novel that serves as a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale. Presented as part of a manuscript written by one woman with testimonials from the other two, the spinoff introduces us a rebel group working to overthrow Gilead from within.
What is the vision for the new series?
Since the novel was released both as a book and as an audiobook, Dowd had to reproduce and narrate the role of Aunt Lydia. The role of Agnes was read by Bryce Dallas Howard while Daisy aka Nicole was brought to life by Mae Whitman. Cardinal Tantoo, Derek Jacobi and Atwood herself participated in the audiobook during the epilogue as well.
“Even though I couldn’t go on with Offred’s story, I could go on with three other people involved in these events and tell the story of the beginning of the end, because we know from The Handmaid’s Tale that Gilead disappears,” Atwood told reporters at an event in 2019. “It’s no longer present 200 years in the future because they’re doing a symposium on it. How did it collapse? How do these types of regimes disappear? I was interested in exploring that.”
She continued: “There (are) some new costume choices in this book. Human beings all the time love clothing that tells you who you’re looking at, like football teams and things like that. So, yes, we have some new outfits.”
Atwood said she kept Miller updated on her plans The Handmaid’s Tale it was coming to an end.
“I read the scripts; I make notes about them,” she added. “I have influence, but no real power. But luckily we get along most of the time.”
