Jennifer Lopez hinted that she has experienced ups and downs in her personal life while discussing her role in the film Unstoppable.
Lopez, 55, recently opened up about Variety about how she related to her character in the biopic, which highlights the wrestler’s life and career Anthony Robles. Lopez portrays Anthony’s mother, Judy Robleswhose son was born without a right leg.
“I tell her all the time, ‘You have to own up to who you are and what you’ve done,'” Lopez said. “You are an inspiration to every mother who has ever struggled. You have indeed triumphed. You have raised a son who has become a leader and you deserve the credit.’ But she is very humble.”
Lopez noted that she and Judy felt like “kindred spirits,” adding, “We both grew up Latina in this country. We both had children and we have hopes and dreams for them. We both had challenging relationships, which that let us keep our families together.”
While single mom Judy supported her son’s wrestling journey — Anthony won the 2011 NCAA Individual National Wrestling Championship in his weight class — she pursued her own big dreams. She returned to school, eventually becoming the athletic director at Arizona State University, the same college her son attended.
Meanwhile, Lopez faced her ups and downs with the added challenge of being in the public eye. She was previously married to Come on Noah in 1997 and until Chris Judd from 2001 to 2003. In between her split from Judd, Lopez continued with Ben Affleckto whom she was engaged until 2004. The couple called off the wedding due to increased media attention.
Lopez then married her Marc Anthony for 10 years from 2004 to 2014. The former couple are co-parents to 16-year-old twins Emme and Max.
After the end of her engagement with Alex Rodriguez in 2021, Lopez and Affleck, 52, rekindled their romance. The pair got engaged once again in 2022 and held two wedding ceremonies later that year, exchanging vows in Las Vegas before celebrating with friends and family in Georgia. (Affleck was previously married to her Jennifer Garnerwith whom he has three children.)
Us Weekly confirmed in August 2024 that Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck after two years of marriage. A source exclusively revealed a month later that “there’s still a lot of love” between the exes despite their split.
Affleck made his appreciation of Lopez known in November 2024, as he praised Lopez’s performance in Unstoppablewhich he produced. “Jennifer is spectacular,” he said Fun Tonight.
Discussing her role with VarietyLopez emphasized the “strength” Judy displayed throughout her life. “Women are strong,” she explained. “We have to be. From the moment women are born, we always have to prove ourselves, show that we are good enough. This creates a kind of force. And then many of us are born – and there’s nothing that makes you stronger than doing that.”
