Kate Winslet
Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagicKate Winslet is known for her fearless film roles – but she’s not completely fearless.
As it appears on the Friday, January 17, episode of The late showWinslet, 49, told the host Stephen Colbert for what she refers to as “the scariest animal in the world.”
“I’m honestly not great with cows,” she told Colbert, 60, which drew laughs from both the host and his studio audience. “No, no, don’t listen, here’s the thing. Someone said to me, ‘Oh, you’ve got to learn how to read a field of cows, you’ve got to be careful, because if they turn, they’re gone’.
of Lee The star went on to recall the advice he received, detailing that if you see, “their tail is going around and they’re moving like that and there’s flies,” it means they’re unhappy. “They might accuse you,” she recalled listening.
Winslet added that she never realized how dangerous cows could be, telling Colbert that she goes “for walks all the time,” where she’ll often navigate trails “through fields of cows.”
“I’ve decided they’re going to run me into the ground,” Winslet gleefully concluded with a straight face. The remark prompted Colbert to wonder, “Has that ever happened?” to which Winslet discovered that cows had indeed haunted her and her mother in the past.
“They were tapping it slow and then speeding it up, really, really,” Winslet said. “At the limit (one) two galloping, I would say. However, there are many stories in England of people having very bad encounters with cows. Very real. So I am extremely wary of a field of cows.”
She added that she wanted to “deal better” with her fears, telling Colbert that, “they’re not really scary, are they? No, they’re not,” before repeating that being wary of cows was a “legitimate fear.”
Colbert’s easy interview question was part of what the TV host calls “The Colbert Questionert,” which includes 15 interview questions to help him get to know his guests. Previous celebrities who have participated in the often hysterical interview series include George Clooney, Meryl Streep AND Tom Hanks.
As for Winslet, her cow concerns follow the actress’ candid recollections of one of her most famous screen moments. During the Sept. 26 episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, hosted by Josh HorowitzWinslet revealed that she and Titanic useless Leonardo DiCaprio filmed her infamous door scene in waist-high water.
“It was a pretty tough tank, that one,” Winslet told Horowitz. “To burst a bubble, it was waist high, that tank. So first of all, I would regularly say, ‘Uh, can I go pee,’ and then I’d get up, walk out the door, walk to the edge of the tank that was like 20 feet away, and I’d literally have to I would drop my leg and climb out of the tank and go for a pee and then come back and crawl back to the door.”
She added that DiCaprio, 49, knelt down throughout filming his (spoiler alert) death scene, which has been debated for years.
