Let’s get something out of the way: I’m a journey-or-wed Law & Order: SVU fan
I will stan Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the Odafi tuva (Ice) for the rest of the time. I will refrain from them in every new room, a little different, but very similar, and I will pretend not to know that the famous guest star is the bad boy as soon as I see it. Nothing gives me comfort like the reliable “chung-chung” that an former once called “vowel sound” in my apartment-and I can watch the same episode 25 times, in fact, without being upset. It is – surprisingly, but not infrequently – as a blanket weighted for my soul.
However, the 26th season, which ended on Thursday, May 15, let me want more. I hesitate to say this because I hesitate to say something critical about anyone’s art, because it is art, and many talented people have worked hard for it. Also… 26 Freakin seasons’. This is crazy and unheard of and a triumph to celebrate. But this season felt a little harsh.
I appreciated the show began in the middle of the season with an episode called “First Light”, interpreting The Terrific Amy Landecker as a Pelicot gisèle– The finished victim and just as scary Lelan Orth as its abuser. Now there is no more inspiring woman in the world than Pelicot, and her story could have played over a whole multicolored bow. Instead it was destroyed in 42 minutes. If there were any need to slow down and get multiple episodes – maybe even a whole season – to unpack a tragedy and many ways systems and individuals can fail women (something that the show often does excellent) was this.
Recently, the Episode of May 8 “Aperture” let me scratch my head. It was – I think – for a wealthy couple visiting an apartment that had an telescope, through which the rich man spied on a sex attack, except that the couple was not rich, they just like to watch apartments; And though it was an attack, it was a very different, very difficult to believe-to- per-Svu kind of attack than detectives first thought. And the episode was also in connection with the killing of the General Director of United Health, Brian Thompson? (Side Note: Do so many people really have telescopes in their apartment? I have lived in New York all my life and no one knows there is no telescope. Anyway.)
During the 26 seasons, the ‘most memorable storytelling series have been slow burns – groups of episodes in which drama plays over a long period of time (Saga William Lewis, which had two eras; Delia Wilson/Bart Ganzel War, etc.); Any number of units that see the right arrival of the crying of crypts, racists, men’s rights activists and other bags D; And presenting crimes so vague and strange they make you worry a little about writers. (There is no one Svu fan who looked at the third season of Lily And he didn’t think immediately, “Annihilator Family” while Timothy Ratliff arranged them toxic smoothies.)
For a show that often crashes the rows from the titles, I can figure out why things can be overwhelming. News on the most terrifying time moves quickly – very quickly for our nerve systems – and our attention spaces are short. There is only so much to cover. But lately, no story line has been given enough space to breathe, and the result is often confused.
Speaking about the room to breathe, I wish that some of the actors who have come and went in recent years to get more. On May 7 it was announced that Juliana helped Martinezwho never clicked enough in place during a season of detective Kate Silva, and, more surprisingly, Octavio writtenO (detective Joe Velasco for three seasons) will come out. They follow a long line of the latest Blink-and-You rules will lose their rules: Jamie Gray Hyder, Ledge, Molly Barnett, Phillip Winchester. The most exciting but quickly broken development was when Jordana Spiro Went from a prominent guest star playing a terribly abused woman in 2022 in a FBI profile in 2024, then disappeared forever. (Back to Martinez for a moment: Who can blame her not to click? I’m sure any actor who plays a new female detective in the special victim unit enters with a fair amount of premature PTSD knowing how things have gone for so much before them.)

But the shaking cast, as sad as it is, especially for Pisano, is likely good news. On the heel of that announcement, it was revealed that season 27 would correct a wild mistake – downloading long -term caste member and fan favorites I had a son. (It was difficult not to feel that every new member of the team that came and went was trying to fill the holes in the rollins in the country, such as Rollins himself, who continued to appear as a guest star.)
But the best sign things are looking for Svu came in April when term broke the news that Michele ceramics – who has produced about 100 episodes – would become (unbelievably) the first woman of showing the show, replacing David Graziano. playwright Warren Leight served as a showrunner for more than a decade, with a break in the middle, and overseeed some of the best episodes of the series (including those torn by titles, as the “burnt land” of 2011, which took inspiration from Dominique strauss-kahn the case, and the “strange fruit” the theme from his front-Model body, who presented a non-famous non-famous Britt belowwho was already incandescent). I have a feeling that we are heading to another golden era like it in the hands of Fazekas and its writing partner, Tara Butters.
“I am obviously not done with Svu And I have so much responsibility there yet, which is keeping me artistically challenged. It’s challenging. In the meantime, I have also had these extraordinary moments, “Hargitay said in May 2024 to stay on the show since its premiere in 1999.” I’m really happy and fulfilled with my life now. So we’ll see what comes from. But for now, I’m very happy on the trip. “
That’s all to say: SvuYou are a titanium. I believe in you. Twenty -sixth is ancient in the years of TV, in the best way. And I’m too excited to see where we go from here. (Also, please try another bow of Gisèle Pelicot. You – and she and we – deserve it.)
