The ongoing Pacific Palisades fires can be especially difficult for individuals like Miley Cyruswho has previously lost property in similar natural disasters.
“This image hits me hard in the heart today. This is a photo taken from my front porch in 2018 after I lost our home in the Woolsey fires,” Cyrus, 32, wrote in a message on social media on Saturday, January 11, sharing a photo of the wreckage. “It’s a feeling you never forget. Walking up to the door you’d pass every day, looking forward to being greeted by those you love as always, but instead you’re met with a pile of ashes and rubble.”
Cyrus continued, “My heart aches for those who are experiencing this devastation (sic) firsthand and I cry for my city. It is beyond heartbreaking. Los Angeles represents ‘living the dream’, but the reality today is rubble and destruction.
The Grammy winner also shared a link to the Malibu Foundation, a nonprofit that helps victims rebuild after the wildfires, and a handful of other GoFundMe campaigns for specific victims.
“Time, resources and commitment from within and outside of our community will heal us, but this hurts deeply for now,” Cyrus concluded her note Saturday.
A string of wildfires broke out in Los Angeles on Tuesday, January 7th, rapidly destroying thousands of acres of property in surrounding neighborhoods. Many celebrities and other residents have lost their homes to the flames. Others, meanwhile, fled the city limits following mandatory or voluntary evacuation orders.
It’s not publicly known if Cyrus’ current residence was affected by the ongoing natural disaster, but one of her previous homes burned to the ground in a 2018 fire. At the time, Cyrus was married to the actor Liam Hemsworth. (Cyrus and Hemsworth, 34, separated in 2019, finalizing their divorce the following year.)

“It’s been a heartbreaking few days. This is what is left of my house. Love,” Hemsworth wrote on Instagram in November 2018, sharing an image of their front porch and a “Love” sign. “Many people in Malibu and surrounding areas in California have lost their homes as well and my heart goes out to everyone affected by these fires.”
He continued at the time, “Malibu is a strong community and this event will only make it stronger. Thanks to all the big local guys (who) helped keep smaller fires going around my property. I love you guys. I love you, Malibu. Thank you to all the heroic firefighters in California.”
Cyrus and Hemsworth had evacuated with their pet house.
“My brother Luke called and said, ‘Get ready, they’re going to issue an evacuation.’ The whole time I was packing these animals, I had moments where I said, ‘It won’t go this far; this is a waste of time and my house is not going to burn down,’” Hemsworth recalled. Men’s Health in a 2020 profile. “And, of course, it burned and was like something to live for.”
While the then-couple and their pets were all safe, he added in the outlet that “pretty much everything” left in the house was “replaceable to a point.”
Three years later, Cyrus appeared to reference their relationship and the fire in her 2023 Grammy-winning single, “Flowers.”
“We were right until we weren’t / We built a house and watched it burn,” she sings in the opening stanza. “Mm, I didn’t want to leave you / I didn’t want to lie / I started to cry, but then I remembered / I can buy myself flowers.”
Cyrus and Hemsworth have since moved on Max Morando AND Gabriella Brooksrespectively.
