In today’s climate, the film would probably not even do it on the table of any Hollywood executive.
In the hands of a smaller writer and performer, jerk It may have become a free collection of racist stereotypes (and there are some moments that feel Icky to today’s standards). But Martin and Directors Carl Reiner (Who would continue to cooperate with Martin at Two -brain man, all of me AND Dead men don’t wear tiles) Use the film to make fun of racism, making the white sublimely protagonist stupid the butt of all jokes. It is appropriate, but that is why the movie humor works so well. It takes great shakes with its comedy and mainly connects every time.

Broadway veteran Bernadette Peters Plays the interest of Navin Marie’s love, a delightful cosmetologist. jerk It is a perfect example of the “so stupid, smart” style of comedy. The nonpological deceit of the film is constantly entertaining, and is a reminder that all comedy must sometimes be. There are few social comments about wealth and race, but it is mainly a fun, striped adventure – and that’s good.
If you love Steve Martin’s subsequent work, do not miss this opportunity to see the film that placed it as a leading man in Hollywood.
