Who does not love Steve Martin? from Bride BY Only murder in the buildingThe actor/writer/musician never manages to laugh.
But it has been a time since the actor played in a film that was really bold and pushed the boundaries of good taste. One of his most popular comedies, jerkIt was controversial even when it came out in 1979, and remains to this day.
jerk Only there is an estimate of 84 percent in Rotten Tomates, which is surprisingly low for a film now considered a classic. But this simply shows that the humor of the film is divisive; If you take it, you will laugh a lot, but if you do not, you will not find it fun at all.
If you have not seen jerk However, now is the perfect time to see what has to do with all the fuss. Netflix just added it to their library, so if you already have a reconciliation, there is no excuse to add it to your queue now.
‘Jerk’ is so wrong, it’s right

Premises of jerk It’s a little problematic, to say at least. “I gave birth to a poor black child,” says Martin Navin’s character directly on the camera at the beginning of the film, explaining that he was adopted by a family of black shareholders in Mississippi and did not realize that he was “different” until adulthood. In today’s climate, the film would probably not even do it on the table of any Hollywood executive.
In the hands of a smaller writer and performer, jerk It may have become a free collection of racist stereotypes (and there are some moments that feel Icky to today’s standards). But Martin and Directors Carl Reiner (Who would continue to cooperate with Martin at Two -brain man, all of me AND Dead men don’t wear tiles) Use the film to make fun of racism, making the white sublimely protagonist stupid the butt of all jokes. It is appropriate, but that is why the movie humor works so well. It takes great shakes with its comedy and mainly connects every time.
Is a masterpiece of physical comedy

Martin has always put his whole body into every show, and jerk It is no exception. From the fully arrhythmic dance of Martin to the beginning of the film (the biggest key to his true identity) to a hysterical scene when he assumes the shooting killer is trying to hit some cans near him, jerk It’s full of physical comedy that will make you burst laughing.
Bernadette Peters is cute

Broadway veteran Bernadette Peters Plays the interest of Navin Marie’s love, a delightful cosmetologist. The Coupleifi sings an adorable duet together, showing Peter’s vocal talent, but her comic acting really steals the show. (When she and Navin meet a big financial obstacle, she laughs laughing, “I don’t care about money – take care of things!”)
Gives the audience permission to be stupid

jerk It is a perfect example of the “so stupid, smart” style of comedy. The nonpological deceit of the film is constantly entertaining, and is a reminder that all comedy must sometimes be. There are few social comments about wealth and race, but it is mainly a fun, striped adventure – and that’s good.
If you love Steve Martin’s subsequent work, do not miss this opportunity to see the film that placed it as a leading man in Hollywood.
