Getty Images (2)Lake Ricki says she’s “living (her) best life” after losing 40 pounds without any help from Ozempic or other weight-loss drugs.
“I started on October 26, 2023 and went on this journey,” Lake, 56, tells exclusively in the latest issue of Us Weekly while promoting her collaboration with Stone Road Farms for her Ricki Lake & Bake cannabis line.
of Hair spray the actress explains that she started by “following a very strict keto diet” that included intermittent fasting and walking outside “every day” in a weighted vest.
As of October 2023, Lake has also been doing Pilates “four days a week,” which has helped her lose 40 pounds and keep it off.
“I didn’t take any drugs because I wasn’t prediabetic,” she says, emphasizing, “There’s nothing wrong with those drugs. They’re actually game-changers for so many people. But for me, I didn’t want to rely on a medicine if I could help it.”
Instead of using Ozempic or similar GLP-1 medications, Lake says she did “her own thing” that was “very specific.”
“I’m wearing a glucose monitor. I’m wearing my Oura ring (which tracks health data). I prioritized sleep and, in general, a low-stress lifestyle. And it worked”, she says. “It still works.”
Before you talk to me usLake says she took a two-mile walk and took a Pilates class, which is her norm.
“I took what used to be a chore, you know, every day I had to work out and get on the elliptical and hate every minute of it,” the former. Lake Ricki the talk show host continues. “Now it’s a privilege and a joy to be able to move my body, not have pain, see results (and) fit into my size 4 jeans.”
Lake rose to fame playing Tracy Turnblad in 1988 Hair spraywhich she once declared to be “pleasantly plump”. Since then, she has had many ups and downs with her weight.
In 2007, she was Us WeeklyIts cover star after losing more than 100 pounds — even giving us a shoutout on Instagram on February 26, 2024, in the same red swimsuit Norma Kamali modeled for the photo shoot 17 years ago.
“I literally wore the bathing suit for me,” she says us. “I was like, ‘I wonder if I can still do this?’ Because I kept it (off) all these years. I loved that bathing suit! And I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I look good!’ In some ways I think I look even better than I did then.”

Lake says: “For 17 years I kept all the clothes from that time. And I said, ‘Why am I doing this to myself? I’m in my 50s, I’ll never be in good shape like that again.’ And of course, they all suit me. In fact, I had to take some of them and make them smaller.”
“It’s exciting. I won’t lie. It’s the best feeling in the world to have done this hard work and feel good in my own skin,” she continues. “And to be able to share with the world that I did this. I put my mind to it and look what I did. And then, besides that, I’m very healthy. I am so strong. And I just want to keep feeling that way.”
Three years after the Lake was covered Us Weekly in her bathing suit, she revealed her 130-pound weight loss Good morning America. She confessed during the December 2010 appearance: “Being fat worked, and I think that’s what was confusing to me for a long time in my career. During my teenage years and, you know, later teenage years, I got bigger and bigger. I had the worst, worst eating habits.”
Then when the mother of two joined Dancing With the Stars for season 13 in 2011, Lake lost even more weight. At the time, she told exclusively us that DWTS She “didn’t like to work” but she was “covered in sweat” after every rehearsal.
More than a decade later, Lake points out us she continues to make her health a “priority” and gives herself all the tools to succeed. “I don’t go out late at night like my friends. I have DJ friends, they’ll come out at midnight and I’m like, “I’m so sorry.” I can’t get there,’ she says, laughing. “I’m very sleepy by 8pm”
The former talk show host says she goes to bed early and wakes up to exercise before the sun comes up. “I walk every day, weather permitting. But even in the rain, I’m there (at) dawn with my dog and usually my husband,” she adds.

Stone Road FarmsLake notes that over the past year it’s been a “mind flip” where working out is no longer a “chore” but something “I love to do.”
She gushes, “I like to slow down, look at nature and move my body, get my heart rate up, sweat.”
The actress – who teased us that she’s working on a lifestyle cookbook documenting her health journey — has also turned to cannabis to relax and avoid added sugars.
Last month, Lake announced its collaboration with Stone Road Farms in California for its Ricki Lake & Bake products, which are available in stores in the area.
“I definitely believe in this drug, and in the Stone Road brand and what they’ve built,” Lake said in a press release in December 2024. “It’s very much about where I am in my life and I’m very happy . to get this out.”
Outside of growing weeds, Lake says us she smokes cannabis at night with her husband, Ross Burninghambefore you go to bed.
“It’s low in calories. Wine has sugar and calories,” she explains. “Recently I’ve lost a bunch of weight and I’m really making it a priority to keep everything under control. I’d rather drink my cannabis, which is, like, 40 calories. And still get that nice buzz.”
