In April 2022, the quarterback, now 35, raised eyebrows for his comments about women during an appearance on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast.
“Now a woman, to me, is taking care of your needs, but she knows how to take care of a man’s needs. right?” said Newton. “And I think a lot of times when you get that aesthetic like, ‘I’m a boss whore, I’m this, I’m that.’ No, baby! But you can’t cook. You don’t know when to shut up. You don’t know how to let a man lead.”
Nicole, who was dating Travis Kelce at the time, took to Twitter (now known as X) to address the remarks.
“The obsession with women being able to cook is really comical. Because it’s like your taste is so superior, meet a Michelin star chef, then bozo. Surely the average woman is capable of making edible food. How do you think it has survived so far?” the influencer wrote on Twitter.
Nicole added in a second post: “It’s not really about if she can cook – it’s more like she wants to cook for your hungry hippo ass.”
Nicole further addressed the situation via Instagram Live, which was picked up by TMZ Sports: “I think it’s stupid that we have to keep having the same tired conversation about what makes a woman rich. This man said you should be able to cook and be quiet because that’s what his mom did. Like a boy, go with your mother then.”
The next day, Nicole clarified her statements.
“I have no ‘beef’ with anyone. I have beef with the idea that it reduces a woman’s worth to what is put on a dinner plate,” she wrote. “This confession was shared publicly on a podcast, it is important that it 2 be publicly denounced. Now if you’ll excuse me, go order the postmates.”
While Newton didn’t address Nicole directly, he claimed he was unfairly “scrutinized” at the time.
“You cannot expect so much from a person and give so little. … I should have prefaced what I said and mentioned that not only does a woman need to know when to shut up, but a man also needs to know when to shut up,” Newton said in a YouTube video. “Whatever you are meant to be as a human being – male or female – you must be. And I think not going as deep as I should have cost me.”
“I have daughters,” he continued. “When the day comes when my daughters look back and say, ‘Damn, what did you really want with this, I’m not going to sit back and say, ‘Well, that was just taken out of context.'”
Newton has eight children, including three daughters, with several different women. Recently, he and his girlfriend Jasmine Brown welcomed a baby girl in 2024.
Meanwhile, Nicole and Kelce broke up for good in 2022 after dating on and off for five years. He started dating Taylor Swift during the summer of 2023. On Special ForcesNicole talked about the reactions she received from Swift’s fans, but also complimented the Grammy winner.
“I really like her,” Nicole said in the second episode, referring to Swift. “I think she’s very talented.”
