Tom brady admitted that his exit from New England Patriots was lit by a “tension” with the then coach Bill Belichick.
Brady, 47, who played defender for the patriots under the leadership of Belichick from 2000 to 2019, detailed the couple’s dynamics in Monday, March 24, his weekly newspaper edition 199.
“The reality was, after twenty years together, a natural tension was developed between the place where coach Belichick and I headed into our career, and where the patriots were moving as exclusivity,” Brady wrote. “It was the type of voltage that could only be selected by one type of separation or one of us re -evaluating our advantages.”
The discovery came after Brady confirmed in the February 2024 documentary, DynastyTo have Belichick, 72, as his coach will not attract him again for a 21st season with the patriots.
“I and coach Belichick, we did what we wanted and competed for 20 years together,” said the seven -time super Bowl champion, for Athletic. “But I wouldn’t sign another contract (in New England) even if I wanted to play until (I was) 50. Based on the way things had gone, I wouldn’t register for more.”
Brady’s Bulletin detailed his decision to play for Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 after a careful consideration. “When Tampa Bay entered the picture as a serious opportunity for me, everything I did during those days in March was appreciated and reassessed my advantages,” Brady wrote, before adding that his family also factor in his decision. (Brady is the father of three children: son, Jack, 17, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Bridget MoynahanAs well as the son, Benjamin, 15, and daughter, Vivien, 12, which he shares with his ex-wife Gisele bündchen.)
“I asked myself as someone headed in their forties with school -aged children and twenty years of battle wound, what really mattered to me now?” Wrote Brady. “What I ended up with was a list of about twenty things that I then ranked and appreciated on a weighted scale from 1 to 3.”
Despite the controversial conclusion of Brady and Belichick, Brady has expressed gratitude to Belichick and his time in New England, in which he won three MVP awards. When Belichick left the patriots on January 11, 2024, Brady went to Instagram to tribute him. (Belichick is now training college football at the University of North Carolina.)
“I am very grateful to have played for the best coach in the NFL history,” shared Brady that day through his account. “He was a great leader for the organization and for all the players who played for him. We achieved some amazing things for a long period of time, many of which will be difficult to repeat.”
Brady went on, “He decided to never be deceived by the organization in the face of disasters and doing what we could do, and what was in our control, that was to go out and do our job. I could never be the player who was without you coach Belichick.”
