What VPR’s Lala Kent said to Katie Maloney about the broken friendship

But by the end of that same season, there were multiple cast member rifts — including the broken friendship between Lala and Katie.

Trouble started early for the cast — Lala later revealed she had a falling out with Katie before production began on season 11.

“Just before the Season 10 reunion, Katie had gone on a podcast saying, ‘The spirits were out with us,'” Lala shared on her Give Them Lala podcast in March 2024. “Something had happened and … we we never got back to where we were.”

Lala did not want to give details, adding: “It can be talked about (at) a moment in time, I don’t know, I won’t talk about it today. But I feel like after that happened, we saw each other differently and distanced ourselves.”

Katie and Lala briefly resolved their issues, but after a tumultuous ending to season 11, Katie admitted that she couldn’t see a future friendship with Lala. Lala, for her part, confirmed that she felt the same way.

“We can go through this all day, it doesn’t matter. What’s done is done,” Lala said on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast in December 2024. “We may be able to rebuild at some point or we may never see each other again. Who f— knows, right? But I want her to be happy in her life. She deserves it.”

Off-screen issues

During a January 2023 episode of her You’re Gonna Love Me podcast, Katie admitted that her friendship with Lala was struggling, adding, “The vibes are definitely off.”

Lala responded on her podcast a year later by confirming an off-screen fall. “A lot of people asked about (Katie). So, of course, I was like, ‘Why are people asking this?’ Well, now I know someone asked Katie that on her podcast, and she said, ‘The Vips are definitely off.’ So I think the vibes are definitely off,” she said in March 2024 about the rift that was brewing ahead of the Season 10 reunion in 2023.

At the time, Lala noted that she and Katie are “in a different place now.”

“There just never was a solution,” Lala explained. “It was one thing after another that we just couldn’t conquer and see eye to eye. However, as the season goes on, you’ll see us mellow out to each other.”

Not in Mind

Lala said exclusively Us Weekly before season 11 aired in 2024, she had a “rocky” season with Katie.

“We have a difficult season and it was extremely difficult and sad. Especially because we were only on season 10. It made me sad, but we’re good,” she noted. “(I like to have) friendships where we can have ups and downs and then find common ground. I don’t always want to agree, I want to be able to evolve with you. I want you to teach me something about myself.”

Rumors of a feud began in April 2024 when Lala unfollowed Katie and Ariana.

“I found out about it through an Instagram post,” Katie said. “Me and Lala more than a year ago we had gone through some things and I thought we repaired (it). Then, this past season you see in THE show, we got into some fights. We were like, ‘I feel like we weren’t seeing eye to eye on a lot of things.’ And I’m not entirely sure. I don’t really know what to say about that.”

Airing their issues

As season 11 continued to air, Lala admitted that Ariana played a role in her breakup with Katie.

“I think we were at odds because from my perspective, she wasn’t very honest this season. I don’t know Katie (because) the reason she and I really connect is because we’re not bulls— Lala explained on the Vanderpump Rules After Show in May 2024. “You might not like what comes out of us. mouths, it can be harsh or aggressive, but it is what it is.”

Lala even quoted what Katie had told her about her problems with Ariana.

“She was freaking out like, ‘I’m the only one doing stuff for this sandwich show. where is she She is always late for half her rent. She’s dropping the ball,’” Lala asserted. “She was very worried about rocking the boat after investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in this restaurant and her business partner is Ariana. Can’t say I wouldn’t feel the same way. I probably will. She had thoughts. You can have opinions and have Ariana’s back.”

Katie eventually set the record straight in her private conversation with Lala.

“I am someone who has suffered from imposter syndrome for as long as I have known myself. So I was worried about opening my sandwich shop,” she wrote via Instagram Stories in May 2024. “So when Ariana was going through not only a world of hurt, but also getting some amazing opportunities, that changed a lot of things. during an important time. I was extremely sensitive to what she was going through, but also very supportive.”

Katie denied Lala’s comments about dumping Ariana, adding: “I had a lot of insecurity about what I could take on and I just didn’t want to put it on her. I had an emotional response that didn’t feel right to take her to her front door, so I went to where I felt safe. Or where I thought I felt safe.”

While Katie and Ariana were able to resolve their issues, the same cannot be said for Katie and Lala. “To know me is to know that I value trust, loyalty and integrity,” Katie concluded.

Questioning their friendship

In addition to questioning Katie, Lala also weighed in on her friendship with Ariana, saying on a June 2024 episode of the Two Ts in a Pod podcast, “Trauma relationships run deep. I’ve had trauma relationships before and they are thick, but neither of you better get over the trauma. Because once you start to heal, (that) relationship is over.”

Katie highlighted Lala’s attempt to rekindle old drama on screen — specifically her miscommunication with Ariana — during the season 11 reunion of Vanderpomp Rules. She later explained why she didn’t see herself going to a good place with Lala again.

“I felt like she was definitely holding some feelings and thinking some things that I didn’t know she felt. And so she was saving them for the reunion, which I didn’t feel was super authentic,” Katie said on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast in July 2024. “To sit there and be called an inauthentic or fake person . But in the meantime, I’m sitting next to someone who I thought I knew and knew very well and was open and honest with me, but who felt a certain way about me for a very long time. That was shocking.”

Katie questioned Lala’s behavior when the cameras were rolling.

“Once you break my trust like that, it’s very hard to come back. Faith is the most important thing for me. And when you try to manipulate me with that and use it against me and say we talked about these things,” she continued. “These were not the kind of conversations that were meant for the camera. Not everything is. … I’m allowed to have some kind of privacy and talk about emotions with people. I do it with my mom, I do it with other friends.”

During the podcast appearance, Katie was asked if she thought Lala leaked their private conversations because she was getting a lot of backlash from the public, to which she said: “Would you say (she was) living in the comments section?” (The response was a reference to Lala’s reunion claims that their cast members — like James Kennedy and Scheana Shay — were acting based on how they thought Bravo fans wanted them to act.)

Saying Goodbye

After the end of the 11th season, Lala reflected on the close relationship she had with Katie.

“They all have a really special place in my heart. I had a lot of fun with Ariana when I was first on the show. Katie, my friendship with him (during season 10), I thought that friendship was really on point,” she said on her podcast. “When I think back, I’m like, ‘Wow, even though it was a while. difficult time in my life, that friendship really got me through a difficult time in my life.”

Lala clarified that she was still “very fond” of Katie and her co-stars despite their failures.

“Katie and I were very close. I don’t think we have anything in common now, and that’s okay,” Lala asserted. “I don’t even know what we’re going to talk about (now). We’re just in such different places and I think the friendship was meant to be the way it was at the moment.”

Later in the episode, Lala argued that her relationship with Katie “worked out fine,” adding, “I think that’s totally fine. I have nothing but fond memories of that friendship. I have nothing but memories beautiful from the friendship I had with Ariana and Doute, but people change and move on.”

She concluded: “There’s not much more to talk about – and we’re just at different stages of life. So, regardless of why we fell, I really don’t give a ho-. What I do know is the time we spent together, I really enjoyed it. And I wish them all the best.”

Bravo first went on hiatus in season 12 filming Vanderpomp Rules because of the constant tension between the actors. The decision was eventually reversed and filming resumed, but with an entirely new cast. Lala then offered an update on where she stands with Katie now that the cameras have moved on from the OG cast for good.

“It was the strangest season I’ve ever been in. It was all very sad. And Katie and I have two very different perspectives on what happened and the decline of our friendship,” Lala said on the December 2024 episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. “She sees it in a way, and I don’t like being painted as someone who gathers information and releases it at a convenient moment. Because that’s not what happened.”
