Over the years, we have updated the Shakeology formula in order to maintain an unprecedented level of food and quality.

What goes to decisions to update Shakeology’s formula?
Monthdo months, Shakeiology Isabelle Daikeler and Darin Olien co-creators meet with our dedicated research and development team (R&D) to evaluate the current formula of Shakeology and identify possible improvements.
Some of the reasons they may consider formula updating include:
- The quality of the ingredient: We constantly test our components of our suppliers for pollutants, fillers, glances, mold, heavy metals and more. In fact, our tests are so strict, suppliers are known to set aside their best crops for us. And if suppliers cannot give us the quality we look for, we look elsewhere or remove it from Shakeology – even when our competitors do not.
- Scientific evidence: New findings of research for nutrients or particular ingredients and their possible benefits can often direct formula updates. Unlike most companies, Shakeology conducts clinical studies to better understand and improve the health benefits of our product.
- Customer: Shakeology takes the customer’s satisfaction very seriously. Sometimes, we can modify the formula based on the reactions regarding the taste, structure, benefits or number of factors.
What latest updates were made in Shakeology Formula?
Original Shakeology: Our latest formula change in the original Shakeology was made in 2019 for the Vegan and 2020 scents for the scents of whey.
This update removed the oats protein, Chia and Sacha inchi, and added more probiotics, fiber, flax and matcha, in order to improve the nutritional value of Shakeology while addressing the disturbances of the contaminants of certain ingredients.
- Heart and intestinal health: These changes formulas increased dietary fibers of Shakeology, Omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics and phytonutrients of green tea to help better intestinal support and heart health.
- Gluten: We added a “gluten -free” request with updating. This came from removing oat proteins from the vegan formula and improving our testing so that we can label the “gluten -free” shakeology with confidence. Although oats are naturally gluten free, they can often be contaminated with gluten.
Shakeology 0g Added Sugar: In 2024, we started Shakeology 0g added sugar, which took countless hours to develop to ensure that it has all the same benefits as the original shakeology, tastes just as well, and uses high quality ingredients as the original. The most complicated part of getting the right of the 0G added sugar formula was the choice of the right natural sweetener to use instead of organic cane sugar, to provide the delicious taste that our customers expect from Shakeology.
We chose the highest grade stevia, Reb M. It has the purest taste that is more similar to sugar and is sourced from farmers who have learned how to grow and reap Stevia responsibly. Reb m that we use is also verified of the NO GMO project.
Shakeology was considered “too expensive to become”
When Shakeology began in 2009, there was nothing like it in the market, and despite dozen copies, it is still the case.
Although there was a lot of protein oscillations there, Shakeology is the original superfood shock, meticulously created to offer a food based on one, based on food that people still do not get from the average diet.
When Environmental Advocate and Supplementary Formator Darius Olien (the world’s first superfood hunter) tried to create a higher and more powerful shake he could imagine, everyone was told that it was too expensive to do.
For Olien, Shakeology was not just about helping super healthy foods in the world. It was about finding the best quality of harvest as well.
This is when he came into contact with co-formulator Isabelle Brousseau-Daikeler and Carl Daikeler, CEO of Bodi, who, unknown to him, was working towards a similar goal.

Why does it taste natural in shakeology? Isn’t Darin against them?
Shakeology Darin Olien’s co-creator is very open to his concern for many natural tastes, and is a perspective separated from everyone in Shakeology.
In the US, natural fragrances may contain additives and solvents that are considered natural and are usually recognized as safe by the FDA.
However, only because they are allowed by the FDA does not mean that we put them in Shakeology.
Shakeology uses only natural odors derived from plants and are extracted using traditional processes such as copper distillation, conjunction or rotary cone (low temperature process for sensitive aromas).
These methods simply concentrate the fragrance ingredients so that they can be used at low levels to improve the taste, similar to a cook by making a landing or a coulis.
What natural flavors are used in Shakeology?

After the onset of Whey Shakeology in 2009, it took two years to create Shakeology whey vanilla because it took a long time to find a vanilla supplier that met our rigorous standards.
Natural fragrances can be the last ingredient to pass under the microscope, but the reality is, the quality of any single ingredient on a label depends on the standards of the source and brand testing.
That is why when looking at an ingredient label, it’s hard to know what you really are getting. Two products with the same list of ingredients can have very different content. And this is what makes the difference between shakeology and everything else in the market.
