Pandemia Covid-19 has had a profound impact on US jobs, reorganizing where we work, how we do our jobs and the advantages of employees. According to Glassdoor’s leading economist Daniel Zhao, “there is more flexibility in today’s workplace, whether it means remote or hybrid options.”
Once unusual, the distance work has become the norm. When the Pandemia struck in 2020, the offices were quickly adapted to allow employees to work from home, permanently changing how business works. However, not everyone believes that this shift should be permanent. Director General and founder of VOX funding, Adam Benowitz argues that it is time to return to work within persons, saying, “I think everyone benefits from work inside and entering and cooperating. Making is more faster. Friendships become bonds that are difficult to form when they all work in their home.” Benowitz is not just in his belief that over the next five years, businesses will turn into a model of pre-fandemic work. Large companies like Amazon, Google and Apple already require employees to return to the office. Benowitz adds, “People are, in general, realizing that people need to be together. And we’re turning towards this …. I think you’ll see more things like four-day weeks with a little time.”
But not everyone agrees with this point of view. Zhao believes that the distance work is here to stay, noticing, “it is simply an important reminder that although there may be some big companies that are making changes, many Americans are employed in smaller and medium -sized businesses, and there are many experiments from those smaller and middle businesses, where they can benefit more from being able to rent all.”
What both parties agree is that the future of work is likely to be hybrid. In 2021 and 2022, we suffered the “big resignation”. Outgoing this, the offices began to prioritize general well -being. And both employees and employer are focusing on the balance of work and life. As Zhao notes, “Of course there is more awareness of the power and the possibility of flexibility in the workplace. This also implies flexibility around the hours and allowing workers to get out of office early if they should go to take their children.”
This shift is especially useful for young Americans. In 2024, 84% of the millennia and 74% of the General Z expressed a desire for more remote work opportunities. However, some, like Benowitz, believe that working in an office is more valuable, “These are generations that need the most, who are on their way there, trying to learn. Learn new skills, learn who they are, make new friendships think that we are deceiving those new generations if we are not bringing them to the office.”
While hybrid schedules offer numerous benefits, such as eliminating travel, reducing stress and providing more time at home. Companies also benefit by reducing the office space and incorporating into a group of wider talents.
