Jimmy Buffett fans around the world can sail on the highway listening to songs to lose in margaritaville and leaving a cheese in Paradise, but in Florida, fans have the opportunity to honor the musician with a license plate in the part back of their vehicle.
In January 2024, the Florida legislature approved two bills to honor Buffett, who died on September 1, 2023.
“Margaritaville is exactly what Florida has to do,” said Republican Senator Gayle Harrell, who sponsored one of the bills. “Jimmy Buffett is Florida’s icon. No one represents the open sun, beaches, (and) more music than Jimmy Buffett and Margaritaville.”

One of the Billets designated the state -owned road A1A like Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway, while the other created a specialty license plate with the word “Margaritaville”, which is the title of the 1977 hit song written by Buffett that has become a nickname for Key West.
Since Thursday, Margaritaville license plates were ordered 2,199. To reach 3,000 preliminary requests, 801 still had to be purchased in advance.
However, the revenue from the sales of the license plates will go to a charity founded by the Buffett, singing for changes and will benefit from nonprofits in Florida that help victims of hurricanes and other disasters, Harrell said.

The Florida Highway Security and Vehicle Website has a number of new specialty license plates available for pre-sales and display the number and the required number for production.
For example, a specialty dish is in the pre-porch for the MLS Inter Miami CF football team, and out of 3,000 required, 1,493 have been ordered so far.
Other specialty tiles include those for the Association of State Beekeepers in Florida, which has ordered 929; The flight of honor, which ordered 263; Matters of cancer research, which have ordered 111; and Down Syndrome, which ordered 110.

While many Buffett fans have come to approach the license plate closer to reality, the question remains whether enough fans will set their fines and finish the work.
