First Lady Melania Trump announced on Friday that a $ 25 million youth investment will be included in the President’s 2026 fiscal budget.
Funds will go to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Foster Independence Program to support young people passing outside custody. This will help provide housing for them, according to a press release from the first lady’s office.
“I am proud to have successfully secured $ 25 million to provide shelter for individuals who grow old out of guardianship,” the first lady in the release said.

“This is another essential measure that ensures the safety, well -being and autonomy of those in the guardian community,” she also said.
The investment marks the 7th anniversary of the First Lady’s “Be Best” initiative, which it began during the first Trump administration to promote children’s well -being.

“The commitment of Secretary Scott Turner will provide thousands of young people who pass outside the custody system with dedicated rented assistance and other supporting services to promote stability and self-sufficiency,” Ms Trump added.
Hud Scott Turner’s secretary thanked the first lady for her work and dedication to her youth.

“I am so grateful for the first lady’s efforts, for her commitment to helping our nation’s youth through its best initiative and to protect public-private partnerships that are changing life every day,” Turner said.
He added, “this funding dedicated to Foster Youth is a player of the game in providing young adults with short -term access to housing and support services that will prevent homelessness.”

President Trump previously signed a presidential announcement by marking May 2025 as the National Foster Care Month.

During his first administration, President Trump signed the Law on First Family Prevention Services, which aims to prevent children from entering custody by providing funding for evidence -based prevention services.

Separately this week, Mrs. Trump hosted military mothers at the White House shortly before her mother’s day, honoring members of the service and their families.
