A stradivarius violin made in the “peak” of Antonio Stradivari’s career, sold at auction for a prize this week.
The musical instrument, worked in 1714 by Stradivar, the most famous violin -related Lutier, sold for $ 11.3 million in a Sotheby auction in New York on Friday.
Violina, known as “Joachim-Ma Stradivarius”, was made during the “golden period” of Stradivar when it was at the height of his acoustic possession of the instrument, Sotheby said.
“This extraordinary violin represents the height of the craftsmanship and history of classical music, its unparalleled sound and the preserved collectors and musicians alike,” said Mari-Claudia Jiemenez, chairs in Sotheby’s. “Joachim-Ma Stradivarius gained global attention, reaching one of the highest awards ever for a musical instrument-a rare recognition and its historical importance.”

Joachim-Ma Stradivarius takes his name from its two most famous owners: Joseph Joachim of Hungary, who lived in the 19th century, and Si-Hon of China, whose wealth donated to the Violin of New England Conservatory in Boston after died in Philadelphia in 2009.
The Conservatory plans to start a student music scholarship fund with income.
“The sale is transformative for future students, and the income will create the largest scholarship with a name equipped at the New England Conservatory,” said Andrea Kalyn, President of the New England Conservatory. “It has been an honor to have Joachim-Ma Stradivari on the campus, and we look forward to looking at her heritage to continue on the world stage.”

The most expensive violin Stradivarius sold for $ 15.9 million in 2011. This violin was known as “Mrs. Blunt” and made in 1921. It also holds the record as the most expensive instrument ever sold, according to Voice of America.

Sotheby’s had praised Joachim-Ma Stradivarius could go up to $ 18 million, which would have set a new record.
Joachim-Ma Stradivarius was also played during the premiere of composer Johannes Brahms “Concerto Violin in D Major” in 1879.
