China frees some US imports from its 125 percent tariffs on Friday, according to companies, although China quickly depressed the US President Donald Trump from the negotiations between the two countries.
The management of Trump has signaled in the past few days that it wants to de -escalate the confrontation between the two largest economies in the world, which has so far raised a large part of the trade between them and the fears of global recession.
“As a quid-pro-quo step, this could offer a possible way to de-escalating tensions,” said Alfredo Montufar-Helu, senior consultant at the China Center of the Conference Board.
But he warned: “It is clear that neither the USA nor China want to be the first to reach a deal.”
Trump said Reporters on Friday that he had “spoken to Chinese President Xi Jinping several times”, but did not say when the two leaders spoke recently or what topics they discussed.
This comes shortly after Trump Time Magazine told in an interview that the Chinese president had called him.
“He is called. And I don’t think that’s a sign of weakness in his name,” Trump told the magazine.
Beijing has had the US characterization of conversations so far – the Chinese message said again on Friday that there were no conversations between the two countries, and added in an explanation that the United States should “stop creating confusion”. China has also not announced any public exceptions.

A statement by the Politburo, the Elite decision committee of the Communist Party, focused on the efforts to maintain stability at home by affecting companies and employees most of the tariffs.
The advertisement, which followed the regular monthly meeting of the political office, showed that Beijing was also willing to wage a trade war if necessary in order to surpass Washington in the event of permanent retail war.
A task force from the Ministry of Commerce collects lists of objects that could be freed from tariffs and asks companies to submit their own inquiries, according to a person with knowledge of this reach.
The ministry said on Thursday that a meeting with more than 80 foreign companies and business chambers in China held to discuss the effects of US tariffs on investments and the operation of foreign companies.
“For example, the Chinese government asked our companies what kind of things they import from the USA into China that they cannot find anywhere else and would close their supply chain,” said the American Chamber of Commerce in China President Michael Hart.
Hart added that some pharmaceutical companies had reported to be able to import drugs to China without tariffs. He believed that the exceptions were medication -specific and not across the sector.
The managing director of the French aircraft engine manufacturer Safran said on Friday that it was informed last night that China granted tariff exceptions for “a certain number of aerospace parts”, including engines and chassis.
The tariff exceptions considered by Beijing could provide companies in China cost relief and use the US exports at a time when the Trump government showed signs to complete a deal with Beijing.
China meets the USA, where it hurts by imposing a mutual tariff of 34 percent on imports and restrictions on important minerals for rare earths. In response to this, US President Donald Trump threatens an additional 50 percent tariff if China does not withdraw his measures. A list of 131 categories of products that are to be considered as tariff exceptions was circulated on Friday on Chinese social media platforms and among some companies and trade groups. Reuters could not check the list that contained elements that range from vaccines and chemicals to nozzle engines.
Huatai Securities said that the list was worth 45 billion US dollars for imports in China last year.
China’s customs agency and Ministry of Commerce did not respond to inquiries about comments. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it was not familiar with tariff exemption plans and redirected inquiries to “relevant authorities”.
Permanent fight
While Washington said that the commercial distance with China is economically unsustainable and has already offered some electronic goods for tariff exemptions, China has repeatedly said that the United States does not raise its 145 percent tariffs.
However, the Chinese economy went with increasing unemployment, deflationary pressure and increased concern that an increasing deficit of non -sold exports could even lower domestic prices.
While China carried out a trading surplus of trillion dollars in 2024, it is also based on important imports to the USA, including petrochemical ethane, which is required for the production of plastics and some drugs.
According to Chinese government data, large pharmaceutical companies such as Astrazeneca and GSK have at least one production location in the USA for medication that was sold in China in China.
Large ethane processors have already searched for Beijing collective bargaining exceptions because the United States is the only supplier.
Trump advertises possible offers
Trump said reporters in the White House that he was very close to a contract with Japan. This is of analysts as a “test case” for other bilateral trade agreements, although the conversations could be difficult. Some expect Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Trump to announce a pact if they meet in June at the G7 summit in Canada.
Trump told the magazine magazine separately that he had completed “200 deals” that would be completed within three to four weeks, even though he refused to provide details. He said he would consider it a “total victory” if the tariffs were still 20 to 50 percent a year in one year.
The US’s office said that it held a productive meeting with South Korea on Friday.
