Pope Francis remained in a critical condition on Sunday, said the Vatican.

In his kidney function, blood tests show “initial, light insufficiency”, but the 88-year-old Pope remains vigilant and “well-oriented,” said the Vatican. The Pope fought pneumonia and complex lung infection.

In his most recent update, the Vatican said that Francis had no longer had any respiratory crises since Saturday evening, but still received high additional oxygen streams.

Some blood tests showed kidney problems, but the doctors said they were under control. The acceptance of his platelet number, which was first determined on Saturday, was stable.

“The complexity of the clinical image and the necessary waiting time for pharmaceutical therapies to give a certain feedback determines that the forecast remains cautious,” concluded the doctors.

Prayers for the Pope flocked from all over the world, including Catholics in his homeland of Argentina, the seat of Sunni Islam in Cairo and school children in Rome.

Francis was said to have celebrated on Sunday morning in St. Peter’s Basilica and Ordined Deacons as part of the years of the Vatican Mass.

Archbishop Rino Fisichella, the organizer of the Holy Year, celebrated the fair in his place and offered Francis from the altar a special prayer before issuing the prog that the Pope had prepared.

“Although he is in a hospital bed, we feel Pope Francis near us. We feel him under ourselves,” Fisichella told the hundreds of white deacons.

A prescribed message that had been prepared for Francis to read on Sunday but not to deliver, said that he had continued “my hospital stays in the Gemelli hospital and continued the necessary treatment, and the calm is also part of the therapy! “

The news asked for prayers for him – as he always asks – and found the upcoming anniversary of the invasion of Russia to Ukraine, “a painful and shameful opportunity for all of humanity”.

In the meantime, the Catholics prayed in Francis’ native Argentina for him in the cathedral in Buenos Aires for him, and the city’s iconic obelisk was highlighted with the message: “Francis, the city prays for them.”

The people who visited St. Michael in the basilica in Toronto Mass on Sunday expressed vouchers for the sick Pope Francis and reflected the effects of the Pope. Francis remains in a critical condition in a hospital in Rome with pneumonia and complex lung infection.

In Cairo, the Grand Imam von Al-Azhar, the seat of the Sunnis, who had established a close connection to Francis, wished him well.

“I pray to Allah, my dear brother, Pope Francis, to give a quick recovery and with good health and wellbeing.

School children from all over Rome have transferred the Gemelli Hospital with Get-Welle cards, while Italian bishops cited rosary prayers and celebrated special masses all over Italy.

Threat from sepsis

Doctors have warned that the main threat to Francis sepsis, is a serious infection of the blood that can occur as a complication of pneumonia. Until Friday there was no evidence of sepsis, and Francis reacted to the various drugs he took, the Pope’s medical team said in their first detailed update to his condition.

Francis developed a low platelet number, a disease called Platzelopenia or Thrombocytopenia. Blood tiles are cell -like fragments that circulate in the blood to form blood clots to stop bleeding or heal wounds. Low thrombocyte numbers can be caused by a number of things, including side effects of medicines or infections.

Francis, who has a chronic lung disease and is susceptible to bronchitis in winter, was accepted into the Gemelli Hospital on February 14 after a week -long bronchitis deteriorated.

The doctors initially diagnosed the complex viral, bacterial and fungal respiratory infection and then the beginning of pneumonia in both lungs. They prescribed “absolute calm” and a combination of cortisone and antibiotics as well as additional oxygen if it needs it.

Recent reforms

Francis has recently taken several measures that indicate that he was aware that he became old and frail.

Last year he revised the funeral rites that are used after his death to simplify the rituals to emphasize his role as a mere bishop and to enable the funeral outside the Vatican in accordance with his wishes. But the core elements of the rites remain, including the three key moments that have to be observed between the death of a Pope and his funeral: in his house, in the basilica of the St. Peters and at the place of the funeral.

Francis appointed 21 new cardinals in December. All up to one goods under 80 and therefore entitles you to choose a consequence to choose your successor. Their additions brought the total number of cardinals of the voting age to 140, far beyond that of St. John Paul II.

When he was already sick, Franci’s beginning decided as shown in the film conclaveThe Dean of the College of Cardinal plays an important role in the life of Catholic hierarchy and is a crucial figure during the transition between one papacy and the next.

Francis also decided to extend the runtime of the Vice-Decan, Argentine Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, 81.
