Pope Leo XIV has determined his vision for his papacy to identify artificial intelligence as one of the most critical affairs for humanity and swore, some of the core priorities of his predecessor, Pope Francis.
In his first formal audience, Leo repeated Francis’ own mission statement from 2013 and made it clear that the Catholic Church was more integrative, attentive to the believers and was concerned with the “people and rejected”.
Leo, the first Pope, born in America, told the cardinals that he had chosen two days ago that he was fully committed to the reforms of the second Vatican Council, which was compiled during the sessions in the 1960s, which the church modernized.
He identified AI as a critical topic and said that it was facing challenges for the defense of human dignity, justice and work.
Leo referred to AI to explain the choice of his papal name. Leo XIII, the Pope from 1878 to 1903, laid the foundation for modern Catholic social thinking – most famous with his encyclical from 1891 (papal letter) Of the revolutionarywhich dealt with the rights and capitalism of employees at the beginning of the industrial age.
The late Pope criticized both the capitalism of Laissez-Faire and state socialism and gave shape a significantly Catholic vein of economic teaching.
A new chapter begins for the Catholic Church, as Pope Leo XIV – the first American Pope – delivers its first trade fair in the Sistine chapel. His choice surprised many, but his global experience and his spiritual background praise early.
“In our own day, the church offers everyone the treasury of its social teaching in response to a different industrial revolution and developments in the field of artificial intelligence, which represent new challenges for the defense of human dignity, justice and work,” said the current pope.
Towards the end of his pontificate, Francis, who died on April 21, was increasingly voted on the threats to humanity’s humanity and demanded an international contract for regulation. He warned such powerful technological risks that transform human relationships into mere algorithms.
Francis brought his message to the group of seven industrialized nations when he spoke to her summit last year, and insisted that AI stayed humanly centered so that decisions about when weapons are to be used, or even less fatal tools are always made by people and not machines.

The deceased Argentinian Pope also used his annual peace message from 2024 to request an international contract to ensure that the AI is ethically developed and used, and argued that a technology, the technology of which is lacking in sympathy, mercy, morality and forgiveness, is too dangerous.
In the speech on Saturday, which was held in Italian in the new synod hall of the Vatican, Leo repeated Francis and grief for his death.
He stopped Franci’s declaration of mission at the beginning of his pontificate “The Joy of the Evangelium” as something of his own marching orders, which indicates that he wants to continue Francis’s priorities.
Father Rob Hagan, a friend of Pope Leo XIV, shares his reflections on the character of the new leader and her longstanding friendship with the Adrienne Arsenault of the national.
On Francis’ insistence on the need for the church to make their leadership more collegial, “loving care for the slightest and rejected” and courageous dialogue with the contemporary world.
Leo also mentioned the need to pay attention to what the believers say: “Especially in (their) most authentic and integrative forms, especially in the population.”
Greeted from standing ovation when he entered, Las Leo from his prepared text and only appeared occasionally. Even when he first appeared in the St. Peter Basilica loggia on Thursday evening, Leo read from a prepared text, which he may have designed at some point before his historical election or in the hour afterwards.
