South Korean investigators go to Seoul to try to arrest the accused president Yoon Suk Yeol.
Yoon supporters gather at his residence, vowing to block the authorities
South Korea’s anti-corruption agency has sent investigators to execute an arrest warrant for impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol as hundreds of his supporters gathered at his Seoul residence, vowing to block their access.
Investigators from the High-Ranking Officials Corruption Investigation Office were seen loading boxes into several vehicles before leaving their building in the city of Gwacheon early Friday.
The office did not immediately confirm how many investigators were sent.
A Seoul court issued a detention order for Yoon after he evaded multiple requests to appear for questioning and blocked inspections of his Seoul office, hampering an investigation into whether his capture the short-lived power on December 3 amounted to rebellion.
In a message to conservative supporters gathered outside, Yoon said he would “fight to the end” against “anti-state forces”. His legal team warned on Thursday that police officers trying to stop him could be arrested by his presidential security service or even by civilians.
