A strong earthquake of 7.7-Magnites shook Thailand on Friday and neighboring Myanmar and brought a skyscraper in Bangkok and crashed into Mandalay.

At least one person was killed in Bangkok and dozens of workers who were saved under the ruins of the skyscraper, said Thailand’s National Institute of Emergency Medicine.

Witnesses in the city said that people were panicking on the street, many of them hotel guests in bathrobes and swimming costumes when water had been driven out of an elevated pool in a luxury hotel.

In the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake of 7.7 size and at a depth of 10 kilometers said. A powerful aftershock followed.

The epicenter was about 17.2 kilometers from the city of Mandalay, which has about 1.5 million inhabitants.

Myanmar’s military government has declared a state of emergency in six regions.

Two eyewitnesses from the city of Taungnoo in the Bago region in Myanmar said Reuters that at least three people died after a mosque.

“We spoke prayers when shaking started … three died in place,” said one of the people who spoke to Reuters.

An official from the fire department in Myanmar told Reuters: “We started searching and went through Yangon to look for victims and damage. So far we have had no information.”

Social -Media contributions from Mandalay, Myanmar’s old royal capital, which is in the center of her Buddhist core country, showed collapsed buildings and debris on the streets of the city. Reuters could not check the contributions immediately.

A witness in the city said to Reuters: “We all ran out of the house when everything was trembling. I saw a five -story building breakdown before my eyes. Everyone in my city is on the way and nobody dares to go back to buildings.”

Another witness in the city, Het Naing oo, said Reuters that a tea shop had collapsed with several people. “We couldn’t go in,” she said. “The situation is very bad.”

A third witness said that a mosque in the city was badly damaged.

China’s news agency in the Xinhua said that in the province of Southwestern Yunnan, who borders myanmar, there were strong tremors, but there were no reports on victims.

Witnesses contacted in Yangon said that many people had left buildings in the city, the largest in the country.

In the meantime, Witnesses said in Bangkok that an office tower in the city center had fluctuated from one side to the other at least two minutes, whereby the doors and windows cracked loudly.

Hundreds of employees submitted themselves through emergency stairs when some shocked and panicked workers froze. There were loud screams to be heard when the building fluctuated further.

Outside, hundreds gathered in the afternoon sun, while employees with medical kits found office chairs for older people and people in shock.
