A young woman who says that she was raped and threatened by the retired NFL player Shannon Sharpe has submitted a civil lawsuit against him to look for $ 50 million in US dollars.
Lawyers submitted the lawsuit on Sunday in Clark County, Nevada, for a woman who is listed in court documents as Jane Doe. The lawsuit also accuses Sharpe of using physical violence for them and inflicting emotional stress.
The woman met Sharpe for the first time in a gym in Los Angeles in 2023 when she was 20 years old and, according to court documents, followed an almost two -year relationship. Sharpe, 56, is accused of raping the woman in October 2024 and again in January, said court documents.
Sharpe published an explanation of his lawyer on X on Monday and said that the relationship was mutually acceptable and described the lawsuit an “obvious and cynical attempt to shape Sharpe for millions of dollars”.
“It is full of lies, distortions and incorrect representations – and it will not be successful,” said Lanny J. Davis in the explanation published by Sharpe.
Sharpe is accused of becoming increasingly abusive, controlling and more violent over time, once threatened to kill them and capture their sexual encounters without consent.
“Sharpe flew into attacks when the plaintiff found his infidelity for her relationship or called him on his foreign activities,” the lawsuit said. “Sharpe even found out how to get into the apartment complex of does without their permission.”
Sharpe was a four-time all-project ended, which played with Baltimore in two Super Bowl champions with Denver and another with Baltimore from 1990 to 2003. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2011.
As all -time leader of the NFL, Sharpe retired under narrow ends (815), yards (10,060) and touchdowns (62). These records have been broken since then.
Sharpe has been a staple on TV and on social media since retirement. He left FS1’s sports debat show “undisputed” in 2023 and came to ESPN shortly afterwards.
