The committee’s report stated that at least 124 journalists were killed in 18 different countries last year, which was the most deadliest year for reporters and media employees since CPJ began collecting the data and logging it off more than three decades ago.

‘Increased dangers’ for reporters, media workers: report
Sudan and Pakistan had the second highest number of journalists who were killed in Israel in 2024.

Another number that recorded an increase in deaths last year was the number of freelancers killed in conflict areas.
The report states that 43 journalists and media workers were more than a third in 2024.
“Another dark new record for independent press members, who are often exposed to the greatest danger because they have very few resources,” it said.
Of these, 31 freelancers were killed in Gaza and rose from 14 in 2023.
